Metal Gear Solid 4

Just started chapter 3, how far in am I? Still loving it (first ever play through), just wanted to know if I'd scratched the surface yet.

The Last 2 Chapters are perhaps my favourite, major Fan service thats all im going to say. Did you get the Metal gear Database of PSN at all?

Nice, just over half way then, will be restarting again as soon as I finish. MGS Database? Nope, just jumped in!

When you get to a certain place I hope you bump the thread to tell us what you think of it. :D

You'll know what I'm talking about when it happens.

i'm trying to think which bit you mean , there were so many epic moments in that game for me. Message me in trust the particular part your thinking of :)

Will do mate, but it's taking me a while to complete the game. Don't get as much gaming time as I'd like, and this one eats that time up. Can't get over just how good it is, definitely jumped up into my top 10 (if not 5!) games of all time.

Must say I'm quite impressed by Naomi so far;)

Especially before you fight Laughing Octopus and you can press buttons during the scenes to look at things... *ahem* :D

I finished this a while back. I never sold it or traded it in because I enjoyed it so much.

I've started playing it again and it's a nice bonus to able to keep your equipment from the first play through. Speaking of the first play through, I only killed people when I needed to, other than that I spent a huge amount of time sneaking. So this time I'm playing it more agressively and using different weapons. It's a bit annoying the fact that the M4 is so versatile compared to most of the assault rifles.

Defianately one of the best games ive ever played apart from Metal Gear Solid 1.
The Shadow Moses bought tears to my eyes.
Pure Masterpiece

Well I'm currently stuck on what I suspect is the final boss fight, which is every bit as annoying as Solidus from MGS2. Suspect I'll be stuck on this one for hours :/

But anyway... some thoughts. I started with MGS2, then 1, 3 and finally... finally! I've waited a long time to play 4, you know ;)

This is the first game in the series that's left me in two minds. Am I disappointed? I think I might be. On the one hand the experience is very cinematic, but on the other hand...

*the ratio of cut-scenes to play segments is about 4:1. You have to press 'skip' about 3-4 times if you are skipping videos to get to the next playable bit (you find this out when your last save was a while back, and you choose not to 'continue' because you screwed up quite badly).

*the plot is nonsense. Yes I know MGS isn't super realistic - it's fantasy. But this plot is just nonsense, even compared to its predecessors. It's actually just ********.

*it's started to recycle rather heavily from previous games.

*the characters and events have become totally unbelievable, because they're so intertwined with each other now, it could only make sense in the mind of its creator. It's become like a children's cartoon. Each episode set up so the main characters can fight each other, over, and over again... Only now they're all related to boot. All the characters are one big (un)happy family now... it's bizarre.

*the bosses and boss fights are probably the worst of the series. And the first two are terribly easy to cheese by using the environment too. Easy to find places you can hit them with impunity. So easy, because the bosses get stuck behind door frames or other places where you can shoot them but not vice versa. That said, the last two BB fights were more interesting.

Overall, you play MGS mostly for the weird and wonderful story. The game is just like a bonus. But although this story is supremely well told, and beautiful to watch, the story itself is something of an failure, really. And the lack of actual playable sections is frustrating.

I can't give it a rating, because it defies any known scale I could grade it by. But very seldom does a game leave me with such mixed emotions.

You skip the cut-scenes/story to get to the next playable?

For what it's worth, I still think Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best exclusive on PS3.

After watching them the first time, and then failing the next playable section quite badly, I decided to reload a much earlier save (where I still had some rations :p)

Instead of watching all the cut-scenes again, I skipped them. I needed to select 'skip' about 3-4 times to get from one playable bit to the next. Bear in mind each cut-scene lasts at least five mins.

Hope that clarifies what I meant.

Yay, finished the game!

Now can someone please explain what the heck I just watched? I don't think I understand or can comprehend any of the plot.

It was fun, tho. I'll give it that. It was exceedingly good fun.
