Hi i just bought a charger that charges aa and aaa batteries along with some Eneloop AA batteries that mean to be the best to get.

What are some of the tips to make batteries last longer?

i previously had some energizer ones and they were pretty much paper weight after only a years use if less.

any tips?

What is descharge mode on my charger? apparantly it has a descharge mode i can use? What for?

any tips on how to charge batteries etc?

Thanks

Charge until light goes off/green.

Use batteries until need recharging

Repeat.

In 1 year when they don't work as well, buy some new ones. Easy.

Don't use them as much.

Put them in the charger.

Not sure what you expect us to say here.

If you had energizers that were useless after a year - they were obviously fakes or you were using them in extreme temperatures / or with their polarity switched - or in a charger that was not fit for purpose. Modern rechargeables last a lot longer than 365 recharges.

And as for discharging ... well depending on the battery type (Low discharge Nickel metal hydride in the case of Eneloops) - it's pretty much a thing of the past.

And if you want to spend all your time worrying about discharging / charging 4 batteries and checking their capacity every day - you may as well spend £20 on 1000 cheap Alkaline cells from China which last 30 minutes before you bin them - but require no fussing / looking after.

Stick em in the charger
When they are ready - take them out and use them.
When they are dead - stick them back in the charger again.
The whole point of Eneloops is that you don't really need to think about how to use them properly.

After the batteries are charged the charger will continue to trickle current into them. Leaving fully charged batteries in the unit can damage them over longer periods of time. Eneloops don't discharge quickly anyway.

Buy a decent smart charger! You didn't specify what charger you have, but fast chargers will kill those Eneloops faster than a good smart charger. I have just purchased a Technoline iCharger BC1000 which allows you to set the level of charging - I always set to the lowest Ma rate, as this will prolong battery life. Eneloops, depending on which ones you bought, should last for 1000 to 2000 charges, in other words a very long time.

De-charge mode may allow you to recondition your batteries (the Technoline above has this feature)

Eneloops are widely considered the best, so buy them going forward
