BMW 123d economy question, any owners/testers?

I wouldnt want to do high mileage in a 1 Series. It is not a comfortable place to be for long periods of time.

I strongly disagree, I do a lot of miles and I find it just as nice a place to be as my old 3 series. I know this sort of thing is down to the individual but I've found it great.

MPG seems to have settled a bit now too, I'm pretty constantly around the 41-42 range per tank which I can live with.

I honestly cannot see how somebody can describe a small short wheelbase hatchback as 'great' for long distance journeys. It's simply not designed to be good at that - if it was so good for that sort of usage then they'd struggle to sell the larger cars in the range!

I've no idea what your previous 3 Series was but I'm suprised at your findings. Then again the 3 series isn't exactly a wafter either.

We were looking at an X1 23d today.

Mrs thought it was great, I think its a bit pricey for what it is.

I had a 18d as a loaner a few years back, thought the interior was pretty cheap feeling for a BMW. It's built on the original 1 Series platform so electronics etc are previous gen.

I'll try and find a 123d to test drive. Snows BMW said today unless I was purchasing it I can't drive it. Err how can I answer that. ******s

As above, and for that frankly ignorant assumption they do not deserve your business.

I'm really not an x1 [or any of the x’s to be fair) fan, its a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.... A poor solution

They say this if they don't beleive you are a serious buyer.

Yup I lodged a complaint with dealer manager. Spoke to a very helpful salesman Friday, today some idiot called Steve at Snows event. I'd told them I wanted to look at it on Friday, so they arranged to have it at the event for me today. Couldn't be more arrogant and he was more interested in larking around with his colleagues.

So the other person was allowed to test drive it, I wasn't yet had already had discussion re figures, PX etc on Friday. All in all sucked. Lets just hope it has problems ;)

Now starting to see what Partridge/Wood etc can find for me.

On that basis I would take your business elsewhere and when you purchase make the DP of Snows aware and BMW customer services too.

Just do a national search - loads more choice. Some dealers will deliver for you as well.

Yup that's my plan. I'll be also seeing Vines after work in Guildford tomorrow.

Couple of interest have come up along with a few others ideas

I may speak to BMW customer service if I purchase a suitable car.

When I purchased my S40 T5 they let me drive it for half a day, put half a tank of fuel in and highlighted some good road variations for a decent test drive.

A good dealer will throw you the keys if you look sensible and of age, a crap one will sit with you and take you on 'their route'.

I've driven two cars from Vines Guildford, a 120i for the GF and a 335i for myself. The 335i I had a saleswomen in the car (understandable as I turned up in a Fiat Bravo and was only 20 at the time) but was allowed to take my own route and do what I wanted basically. The 120i they just gave us the keys and asked us to be back within an hour (this was on a Sunday if I remember correctly).

They did offer to bring a 335i from Reading in for me as well to have a look at as the spec was right but I declined as it wasn't in my budget.

I suppose it all comes down to first impressions. If you have the look of 'hey I have money to spend', then I am sure they will be more accommodating even if your not planning to buy.

Well I did say I found it great, not for everyone I'm sure but then bearing in mind I've been used to Focus STs and various other hot hatches for the last god knows how many years and my 3 was a 320d sport couple with 18s I guess I'm not sued to genuine comfort. I also like to feel whats going on underneath me :)
