Just picked the girlfriends car up from its MOT, came away with a refusal with 4 advisories.

The reasons for refusal:-

001 Nearside stop lamp not working
002 Offside rear direction indicator incorrect colour
003 Offside front brake excessively fluctuating (3.7.A.3)
004 Nearside front brake excessively fluctuating (3.7.A.3)

The advisories:-

005 Nearside front (inner face) brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakend.
006 Offside front (inner face) brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakend.
007 Offside front macpherson strut corroded but not seriously weakend.
008 Offside rear tyre worm close to the legal limit.

Any ideas if its a big job? Cost? It's booked in on Wednesday for a brake test & quote.

Any advise appreciated.

the fails could be fairly straight forward, iirc the fluctuating is normally associated with a seized/partially seized caliper, usually fixed with a strip down (you could do your pads at the same time...) and bubs/fuses are cheap

Thanks chaps. I'm gonna order a couple of bulbs from eBay now & hope they arrive tomorrow. I gave the nearside rear cluster a whack & as a result the stop light jumped into life. It is now defunct again though so not sure what it is, I've tried re seating it to no avail. The bulb works when it's the lights/side lights operating it.

As for the brakes, I'm assuming they won't replace the discs as they're only an advisory? I'd be happy to give the brakes a go myself but I doubt the girlfriend would approve & its booked in on Wednesday. Lol.

Thanks again.

Clios of that era (well most eras) have a problem with bad electric contacts on the rear light clusters.
Remove the cluster, look at the contacts and clean those that are not shiny - in another 3-4 years, rinse and repeat. Must admit, mine are at the stage where a thin layer of solder is needed on the contacts as they have become a little thin for the sockets nowadays

Halfords is just over the road actually, I'm gonna pop there now & see how much they are. I'll have a look at the contacts & give them a clean. Is it not strange the bulb works with he lights & mot the brakes though?

Thanks.

That would usually be a double filament bulb: here.

That's the bulbs sorted to the tune of £8 with a couple of spares. Just the brakes to sort now. I'm gonna see what the garage come up with on Wednesday and go from there. Am I correct in thinking she's alright to drive the car as its booked in for the brakes? It's supposedly for a quote mindst. If the garage comes up ridiculously expensive are we within our right to sort it or go elsewhere and continue driving it?

It states 10 days on the refusal certificate but that's a grey area no? While I'm here, what brake pads are the best to go for? There's a ridiculous amount of choice on ebay, I guess I'd need a Haynes manual too?

Thanks again.
