Female genital mutilation victim was 'aged just seven'

The religious rationale for such practices (including Jewish Circumcision) are circumspect to say the least. Even within Judaism and Islam, the two main religions who advocate such it is not actually a requirement, but by custom and tradition it has become almost sacrosanct. Female circumcision or FGM is more of a cultural practice rather than religious one and is generally illegal in most countries, including many of the African ones most responsible for such practices.

In my opinion, all such procedures should wait until the individual is able to make their own choice, as was the prevalent practice in antiquity.

Sadly it would be sexist to only stop females from circumcision so we cannot allow that- equality and all. And racist if we try to stop the Jewish led push for males.

So its a no win situation unless we ask those in our country to conform to our beliefs..

It is already not allowed for females to be circumcised, so that's not an issue, and preventing boys from being circumcised would mean equality, so that's fine. Nor is it racist, as Jewish is not a race.

It's simply mutilation, and you put up arguments like that because you are prejudiced.

There are no health benefits to circumcision.

If a foreskin is too tight, those people still do not need it done.
There are other far less invasive forms of surgery, not to mention numerous stretching techniques.

Cleary you still have yours. Believe me you need it done I still remember the agony I was in before mine, if you've never suffered that pain you will never understand the relief when you wake up. The stretching techniques take a long time to see results meanwhile the patient is still in a lot of pain.

feel absolutely disgusted at reading the wiki about this..and the type III classification....i dont want to live on this planet any more.

It's a pity we can't talk about the culture that promotes this sort of thing though.

Well I say culture, but he's still using religion to prop up his point

I can see his position, if you are living in the Stone age all you really need women for is to make babies and bread. Educating them and giving them independence is therefore a bit pointless, hence the occasional bus bombing of girls just trying to go to school

If we came across groups of cavemen still practising cannibalism, do we destroy their culture or let them get on with it?

I fully support it in this case as a medical procedure. It alleviates obvious suffering.

Any other reason is sick.

Thanks religion! Scourge of the Earth.

Male circumcision isn't even that bad and has it's benefits. Female however is just completely robbing them of most enjoyment through sex and very cruel.

Regardless unless necessary for medical reasons a person should still be given a say in changes like that to their body.

Probably wouldn't change much though in all honesty. By the time someone reached consenting age, they would have been brainwashed by their peers and/or religion into taking the change.
