Worth going from 2500k to 4770k?

I would say no. Poor scaling isn't always to do with CPU.

It's likely you won't get a 4770k that could OC comfortably above 4.5 which may be a smidgen faster than where you are now. Of course you will get HT...but the benefit of that depends on the games you play.

Hmmm

I have no experience of this, but I did recently read that a 2500k/3570k/4670k will bottle neck 2 high end cards.

However to what extent (I doubt it's much) and will only be in games that need cpu grunt.

In some, I doubt it's worth the outlay for a new cpu/mobo for a few extra frames.

I don't think that a 2500K (especially at 5ghz!) would bottleneck 2 cards. Perhaps 3 it might be worth considering an upgrade but that would probably be to X79 for the extra PCIe lanes.

That is still in question.

I certainly do not get 99% usage in some games and some people report bottle necking with i5 but not i7 in some games. More info needed however.

I'm also confused of what the best system would be for me... As I have approx 4 HDD's attached to my system for constant streaming through PLEX.

I also have a fibre broadband connection and want instant access to everything.

Cheers

Multi thread And single thread result with 4.75 clock PLEASE :) Very nice chip if it can do almost 4,.8. One i would be tempted to buy with MAximus VI gene.

From what i seen 4770 needs to be at lest at 4650mhz to be faster than sandy at 5ghz.
Problem is what will u do with ****** chip that cant do 4.65 ??

Many games are poorly optimized, especially console ports. In these cases a small bump in cpu performance will make a difference. Whether it's enough to warrant the expense is your choice, although the cpu lottery means your current 2500k may end up being faster.

The worst offenders like PlanetSide 2 would require a 4770k @ 10ghz to fully utilize 2 gpus. You just have to accept some games will always perform badly.

I wouldn't have thought so either, but, apparently it does bottleneck dual cards according to some on here, there was a debate on this issue in the Graphics card section where some tested and found that two or more cards were not running 100% with i5 chips but did run at full with i7's.

OP, I would at least go for 2600k, 2700k or 3770k if you mobo supports ivy and you want to run dual cards.

I wouldn't upgrade just yet, at 5GHz you'll be set for a good time yet. At least until 8 core/threads becomes the norm.

Saying that, myself, setter and others found that our multi-gpu setups did benefit from the HT i7 processors. Card utilisation finally hit 99%. Currently running a 3770k at 4.8ghz.

10.34 multi

james_2k ye but i can find Multi ones all over the place. And what i am after is Single :(

IF I was in your position with a really nice 5Ghz 2500k I wouldn't consider a 4770k at this stage. Big questions being asked about the reseller version of the 4770k and highly variable and possibility of mediocre overclock results. Some of the early web site reviews are based on samples sent out by Intel which apparently are not representative of what consumers can expect.

There is evidence that moving to an i7 with HT enabled would help with a multi GPU set-up but I think a watching brief for the time being unless you are into de-lidding

Thanks for the advice guys.

If I did get a 4770k I would certainly de lid and watercool. Seems silly to waste a good chip by not de lidding to me.

I probably won't upgrade at the mo, as I don't fancy shelling out loads of cash then getting a slower chip than I already have. Maybe wait for the next gen when hopefully an improvement is garenteed.

Altjought the other option is getting an i7 sandy for not much over what I can sell my chip for.

What do you reckon the odds of getting 5ghz out of the average 2700k/2600k are?
