Are prisoners allowed to donate blood?

Yes there's a 12 month deferral after having had sex with another man, but that doesn't mean gays are banned.

No but only gay men have to be basically celibate to be able to donate.

Why would straight black men be excluded? Exclusions aren't made on the basis of prevalence race just like that. All samples are tested.
Edit: Sexual contact with people from high risk areas are still taken into account (see below).

If it is not based on the prevalence of infection, as the blood donor service states, what is it based on? If it is based on prevalence, why are black men allowed to donate when the prevalence is higher? The logic her fails.

And, as you say yourself. All samples are tested. So why ban gay men? They are testing the samples anyway.

or offer them an incentive like people get time off for good behaviour.
if good behaviour + donate blood give them an extra day each time they give blood as well as what they would normally get for good behaviour.

only let people with good behaviour give blood.

There in Prison.

Should be no such thing as rewards.

Your in their because you cannot be trusted outside with the general public.

Should be sat in a cell without daylight and 1 meal a day for the duration of their time.

Scum.

I can smell racism here!:mad:

Stats are not racist.

A third of people recieving treatment for HIV/Aids are Black African, yet they are less than 1% of the UK population.

Yet oddly, the blood donor rules do not state "No black Africans", or basically only accepting celibate Black Africans.

Meanwhile, the new infection rates for hetero and gay are actually the same, yet there's a 12 month ban after gay sex but not straight.

Half the rules for donating blood are based on antiquated morals, not danger of passing on infections.

Wow! What a narrow minded view, also your grammar is awful so if you were in charge, god help us all...

No one is whiter than white, nothing is black and white, there is sometime's a smattering of grey.

Jeez, the mentality of some posters on here.

I was going to back out of this thread without posting, but the stupidity of others just boils my blood.

The reason was stated on the previous page:

However, there is a period just after becoming infected when a donor's blood could test negative yet still pass on the infection to the recipient- this is known as the window period and is one reason why it is so important that a donor is accurate in reporting infection risks e.g. travel.

And this doesn't just exclude gay males, it also includes some women. If a women has had sex with a male who has in turn had sex with another male in the past 12 months they cannot donate for the exact same reason.

So were still back to the same thing. Why are black African men not banned? The prevalence is far, far higher.

Yes, Its a well known fact leadership skills commonly come down to grammar.

And I assume from the post effecting you so much, you've likely had experiences in either yours, family or friends life in prison that you disagree with.

How often do you think children use to repeat there offence in school after getting the cane?

How often does a dog repeat its actions after being rewarded with a treat?

Simple Operant Conditioning.

Give prisoners a warm bed, food to eat, tv, movies, music, social interaction on a scale theyve never had.. and in a routine... Thats a reward.

Give prisoners the worst night sleep theyve ever had, dreadful food, no interaction. Thats punishment.

Their are different levels here and at different times reinforcements need to be given in each direction, and you need to add a layer of rehabilitation and these do not apply for mental illnesses, but that point, and fact may I add, remains.

Also, I've purposely added plenty of grammar mistakes just for you, so you can get your nazi kick. Enjoy.

What a load of pseudo-psychological bull.

I used to get the cane at least twice a week and it never stopped me misbehaving.

I used to wait til they finished and say "is that the best you've got"

I was a very wild child though and suppose it may have worked on others.

Being punched in the face by your dad is far worse.

Yeah I agree prisoners should received the bare minimum and that's it. It's a joke that they get great meals and good beds to sleep in despite doing wrong. Feed them rice and lets have 15 hours of hard labour every single of day. That'll stop a lot of them re-offending.

If it's usable blood, then I have no problem with it. They're giving something back to society.
Exactly. Let them do something good for society for a change :p

I'd certainly have no issue with receiving it. If I need a blood transfusion, I need a blood transfusion - the hell with where it's from!

I had a few hidings from my father in my younger years. Think it's just part of growing up

This goes against your point that prisoners should not be rewarded for good behaviour.
