Which one would you recommend? Do one of them provide a much better router? Will I see latencys lower on one isp than the other? Any help is much appreciated

I moved to Plusnet ADSL2+ from O2, and instantly noticed a better connection with lower latency. My fibre cabinet should be enabled shortly, and I'll be sticking with Plusnet. Additionally, their customer service blows BT's script monkey department into the weeds. :D

I have heard that Plusnet is pretty good!

And as Parityboy said BT customer service is poor!

Good choice going for plusnet!

Although of course one could say that the fact I've never needed to contact BT's "script monkeys" speaks volumes for their reliability?

Im with plusnet, took my be connection over to their unlimited fibre package and have to say im extremely impressed with their stability and speed i get from the fibre connection. Also their customer service is pretty top notch, similar to Be who i never had any issues with in the 8 yrs i was with them.

Also from what i have seen in the 2 weeks since my fibre connection has been live is that there is absolutely no traffic shaping, whereas i have heard BT do traffic shape at peak times.

BT limit p2p bandwith with a fist of iron at 'peak times' - which is practically any time of the day you're likely to be home and not in bed if you work normal hours.

I have Infinity 2 with fantastic speeds and don't p2p much so it doesn't bother me really. To some people this may be important though.

I personally found BT's support to be quicker than plus net's.
Whenever I had a problem with plus net it would need referring to BT and then on to Openreach, where as calling BT directly would get me straight through to openreach

typical fix time from BT was under a week, where as with PN it would routinely be 2-3 weeks of either no connection at all, or limited to 500kb, which drove me away in the end

to be fair this was on a fairly flaky DSL line - if you go with fibre you may never need to call them all being well

If your getting a new contract or renewing now BT don't restrict P2P on infinity unlimited, But when you speak to John or Marry you've got to go through the script no diversions in the script.

They really don't you know.

Not these days they don't. No shaping and no caps at all on the unlimited packages.

They actually do because when i called them up and asked them, they said yes they do especially with torrents and p2p then i hear that they dont so who knows who to trust lol. Plus their customer service leaves a lot to be desired for, i have a BT phone line and anytime i have an issue, its bloody fustrating talking to them.

Anyhow am very happy with plusnet, £20 a month for unlimited fibre with no caps or traffic shaping and im getting around 73mb down and 17mb up. Cant beat that really imho.

The old products are traffic managed.

Think I'll go with plusnet thanks for helping me make the choice :p

Gonna sound like a noob now. Currently with Be on a 0 month contract(been ages since I joined them) I take it I can ring them up and tell them I'm cancelling and get my MAC address and call plusnet afterwards to sign up. I'll have internet access till end of month? Heard it takes about 3 weeks to fully migrate.

Yep your Be connection wont stop till the engineer comes and fits the new fibre connection. Once you are connected to the fibre then your be connection wont work.
But yes i gave them a call telling them i wanted to cease my connection, got my MAC code then rung up plusnet and gave it to them...all went smoothly and im now on a superfast fibre connection.

On mine it was the morning of my install that my be connection went down.

How good is Plusnet, as I have heard some bad stories in the same way as TalkTalk?

Cheers

Ive been with them for about 3 weeks now, and i cant fault them...my connection is rock solid and other than suffering a disconnect a week ago, which came back up straight away. I havent got any major issues to report, i suppose i can tell better once im halfway through my contract.

Rang up the other day with plusnet to check whether fibre was available and they said yes. Openreach says accepting orders.

Today they say not available. *****
