I did quite a lot of research prior to investing in one of these. It is a lot of money granted, but my god, it's a good way to spend it. I absolutely adore it. I'm glad I didn't wait for the MBPr. This is the best laptop I have ever used (and I have used quite a few). Anyone else have one?
There are an awful lot of pros :- In no particular order, the noise - to me, this was an essential. I didn't want a loud laptop. Loud tends to mean a lack of efficiency as the fans have to spin fast to cope with the demands of the internals. The GT70c is more or less silent at idle, and although the cooling system can be heard in game, it is not a distraction at all. Furthermore, the case does not get hot. I can sit with this beast on my lap with no problems at all. Granted I tend not to play hugely demanding 3d games, but the games I do play need processor AND gpu power in equal measure.
I also find it incredibly quick. I've never used a system with 16GB before and it makes a HUGE difference with 64 bit operating systems. Everything is ultra responsive and I no longer have to sit and wait for things. Flicking between screens and apps is great. I am not a huge fan of Windows 8 but it is growing on me slowly. It works very well with this laptop all things considered. I've not suffered one O/S crash yet!
Wifi/LAN transfers are incredibly quick. Whether it's a combination of the Killer LAN or the speedy components, (or even Windows 8) transfers are nippy. I managed to copy a 7GB file over wifi in a fraction of the time it used to take. This in my opinion is a huge improvement to me. In fact, wifi transfers are so quick I couldn't quite believe it.
The screen - a fantastic quality non-glare panel. I love it. Even at 1920x1080 I no longer have to squint at certain things. It's all very clear and crisp.
Sound/speakers - once again an awesome improvement and far better than anything I have heard before in a laptop.
Bluray, card reader all work perfectly well. It's a very well specified laptop for the money. Top end stuff for sure, and not the highest spec either - the GT70d is the ultimate.
There is one thing I am less impressed with so far - the keyboard layout. The quality is very very good, and I love the LED backlight idea, but the keys are taking some getting used to. The smaller return key for starters is a bit of a nuisance and I am pressing too many wrong keys for my liking. I am used to a full-size qwerty. So this will take some time to adapt. I guess people will moan about the weight too, but I like it. Nice and solid, and a brushed alu chassis - a worthy desktop replacement.
Overall, it's a fantastic purchase. Thoroughly recommended!!
