A most particular mouse

Hello,

I had a look for a specific mice/peripherals sub-forum and didn't see one so hopefully it's ok to post this here.

I'm looking for some help in finding a mouse for my partner. We do a fair bit of gaming together and at the moment she has a bog-standard mouse and therefore has to use keyboard keys for stuff that I have buttons for on my 5-button mouse. The problem is that she has fairly severe arthritis; what this means is that her hands (already quite small) are sort of, well, squished, meaning she cannot use a large or even larger-than-average mouse comfortably. On a standard gaming-size mouse her reduced hand span means her thumb would always be resting on the side buttons and pressing them without meaning to (if you rest your hand on a mouse like a Logitech G5 then kinda squish your hand together you'll see what I mean). However, she would like to be able to use a mouse with buttons to avoid having to use keyboard keys for melee and other stuff, which can be very fiddly.

So, what I'm looking for is a gaming-suitable mouse, reasonably small, with extra buttons, that is compact and suitable for someone with reduced mobility in their hand. Everything needs to be in reach, but not in the way. I appreciate that's a tough ask, and it's tricky to describe exactly what she needs in a written description, but any help or suggestions would be welcome. Birthday soon and I think it'd be a cool pressie!

Many thanks in advance.

The Razer nagas are better suited for smaller hands. The shape is a decent size and the 2012 edition comes with additional grips for different sizes of hands, etc. They also use mechanical switches for the side buttons which feel much better and tactile.

This is a pic of the Razer naga compared to the G5. As you can see its a fair bit smaller.

Dude, what a great reply, even got a pic with my own mouse as a comparison! Many, many thanks.

Laptop mice are very small. I've used a Logitech M-something, where the thumb buttons are actually on the scroll wheel (you tilt the wheel left and right. The Anywhere Mouse MX also has peculiar buttons.

The Sensei RAW has buttons on both sides. It's a more conventional mouse, but not massive like the logitechs.

The CM Xornet, which I have, has interesting ergonomics, and is cheap. It's flat and small.

So basically, I really don't know what would work for her, but I suggest to move off the beaten track and check what works for her in the stores.

The naga is an awful suggestion for limited mobility and dexterity users, cypto.

My suggestion would be look for an RTS style mouse, as they are much smaller than most mice but still feature most of the other gaming specific features that people look for.

Something like this
YOUR BASKET
1 x TT eSports Theron 5600 DPI Gaming Mouse £44.99
Total : £49.98 (includes shipping : £4.16).

As I said no clue on size with the G600, The idea with the naga was it is a fair bit smaller than the G5 and with the MMO style buttons on the side meant almost any of the keyboard keys could be rebound to it. Which means she could almost avoid the keyboard most of the time. Side buttons are rather larger too compared to my corsair M90.

*Will say one thing, you're one of the first people to not put a 'R' in my name :)

Hard to really pick you out a mouse as generally it is preference and even more so in this case.

If you can get a short list together of mice you think will be suitable based on this thread. Find some places that stock them and try them out in person.

If you are close to the ocuk store (Newcastle-under-Lyme) maybe ring them up and check if they have them before you head down. Although this would defeat the surprise aspect of it as a present. Birthday trip to OCUK anyone :D

I got the Naga 2012, don't bother getting it for the side grips...the only one I like using is the "classic grip" which is the same as the old naga grip!

It has a "palm grip" which makes it wider so she won't want that, and a "claw grip" which narrows the mouse but is meant to be used with your palm not touching the mouse.

If you're gonna buy the 2012 to get the side grips, just get one of the old versions and save some cash.
