Are prisoners allowed to donate blood?

There in Prison.

Should be no such thing as rewards.

Your in their because you cannot be trusted outside with the general public.

Should be sat in a cell without daylight and 1 meal a day for the duration of their time.

Scum.

you realise there are people inside who have done relatively trivial things? shoplift, refusal to pay council tax, mental health issues, drug related (selling drugs less harmful than alcohol) etc.

not everyone in 'big house' is a paedo/murderer.

Yes, Its a well known fact leadership skills commonly come down to grammar.

And I assume from the post effecting you so much, you've likely had experiences in either yours, family or friends life in prison that you disagree with.

How often do you think children use to repeat there offence in school after getting the cane?

How often does a dog repeat its actions after being rewarded with a treat?

Simple Operant Conditioning.

Give prisoners a warm bed, food to eat, tv, movies, music, social interaction on a scale theyve never had.. and in a routine... Thats a reward.

Give prisoners the worst night sleep theyve ever had, dreadful food, no interaction. Thats punishment.

Their are different levels here and at different times reinforcements need to be given in each direction, and you need to add a layer of rehabilitation and these do not apply for mental illnesses, but that point, and fact may I add, remains.

Also, I've purposely added plenty of grammar mistakes just for you, so you can get your nazi kick. Enjoy.

you dont seem to realise being away from family, friends and loves ones IS the punishment.... the point is not to treat them even worse when inside. all you do is create a hard nut who will rip you to bits when they get out. sure, the perpetual re-offenders or violent thugs, dont let them have it easy but there are many people inside for things that seem quite trivial or they made 1 mistake.

you also realise that many prisons dont get: ps3, tv, electricity in cells, a decent bed, a semi-decent pillow etc. you might only get 1 visit a month and 1 hour outside your cell each day. they can also ship you anywhere in the country on a whim (enjoy your visits when loved ones are hundreds of miles away)

try not to get all your info from the daily mail. its not exactly impartial is it?

An old ban that needs to be lifted. Some of the rules are totally arbitrary and make no sense.

If you believe the rules are totally arbitrary then you need to educate yourself about how they are set and maintained. Allowing MSMs to give blood would increase the risk of HIV entering the blood supply by ten-fold.

And black africans? They are far more at risk of bringing HIV in but are not banned. Arbitrary.

Also, maybe HIV got an upgrade recently, but why can't gay men that use condoms donate blood? Arbitrary.

Yes I do, and I 100% agree not every is in that same big house. However, the people who do the trivial things, have the highest re-offending rates.

Punishment needs to be harsher.

Jail is Jail. Offenders should feel fear just thinking about it and do everything in their power not to end up there. Either they go on the run admittedly, or they don't reoffend.

I agree with you, and thats where a lot of pre assesment and future progressive rehabilitation needs to come in (and does in some cases) to stop those hard nuts coming out the other side. And yes, as said above, for the more trivial things the whip doesn't have to be as big as such... but there needs to be one.

Also note, it can be hard getting an entire point of view across on tinterwebs without writing a book.

Underlying point is, the punishment of Jail should be severe and fearful enough that just the thought of it, outweighs the 'positives' of the doing the crime in the first place.

^Again, summary statement that I'm aware does not apply to every single situation, crime, illness etc etc etc.

The high incidence among Black Africans is due to the high incidence in Africa, those who've had sex in Africa and some of those who've lived in Africa at certain times are excluded. Once you've excluded this group Black Africans are no longer such an overrepresented group.

Bother to read the actual decision papers and I'll be interested in your opinion but since it's obvious you haven't you're just spraying your ignorance around.

Any statistics to back that up?

The prison system in the USA is far harsher than ours, they also have the death penalty and yet their crime rate is higher.

just to point out here it's "black African" not "black Africans" it's only there to differentiate between Caribbean and African decent. most have never been there.

Most black africans have never been to africa. yet the prevelance is higher. They really do need to start banning black people, and anyone that has had sex with a black person. With or without a condom.

Obviously I don't actually mean that. Its just pointing at how arbitrary the rules are.

Do the decision papers explain how the HIV breaks through the condom?

doesnt sweden with it's very "luxurious" jails ahve a very low reoffending rate? or normway, one of the cold places up there.

Apologies thought you meant about rate statistics.

None that I have without spending time googling for evidence. Which im sure would bring good facts to both sides of the argument to be fair.

Purely my own opinion's and experience in this case.

So nothing you say has any basis in fact. OK.

yup. and places with more liberal punishment have less crime. at the end of the day we need to look at why some people commit crime and why to some people being in jail isnt any worse than their normal lives (some people's home lives are horrible or they are homeless etc). i still think drug offences should be treated differently.

but anyway, we have lost focus.

there is also a lot of hepatitis in jail so im not sure i would want the blood unless its all been well checked. give prisoners a slightly earlier release (maybe if they are on enhanced [good behaviour] only) and you might start to help some of them change.
