Girl accuses stranger off Facebook of rape

Exactly this - I really don't understand why it's not the case. There's the stupid reason "it gives the opportunity for more victims to come forward" well, why not give out the accuser's name as well, so that if they're lying, it gives the opportunity for more victims to come forward?:mad:

Because the police will already have knowledge of what that person has and has not reported. Whereas the police will not have knowledge of what offences someone has or has not committed.

She is one sick puppy though. I am struggling how this has gone on so long though there must have been a severe lack of evidence to support the accusation: no DNA, most likely alibis or a situation where the accused was going to have to work miracles to be at the scene of the crime, lack of motive or knowledge etc. Surely some alarm bells should have been ringing before this. If she punched herself and ripped her clothing to make it look believable then she would have reported it in the same timespan that other physical indicators would have been present. Sounds to me the accused deserves an apology and maybe a whole lot more.

She should have been placed into psychiatric care - clearly not right in the head.

I dont know tbh, i just skimmed the story myself.

But if she has been sentenced to community service, what a ****ing joke this country and the judicial system has truly become...well it has been like that for a number of yrs but still the mind boggles.

200 hours community service is nothing though compared to what the guy and his family had to endure for 2 years and probably still go through from people who don't know he's been let off

Yes, that's what the article says. Charged with wasting police time, not perverting the course of justice.

Pathetic outcome.

Whilst I agree that she should be given a looking over by the men in white suits, it's ironic that cases like this are a miniscule fraction of the rape culture/rape apologism society we live in which destroys the lives of countless more women per year than a few men falsely accused, yet people will rage at things like this and shrug their shoulders at the other.

^ That's a bizarre comment to make

Rape is a truly sickening crime and anyone who commits it is scum, and the victims who endure it should get all the help and support they need

But this thread is about girls like this who cry rape for no reason, or they wake up and regret what they've done or whatever other pathetic reason they decide to use.

I think people "shrug their shoulders at the other" because typically genuine rapists are convicted and sentenced due to DNA evidence and whatnot. The problem here is the lack of punishment/justice if you will, which is why people are upset. It doesn't detract from the fact that rape itself is a detestable offence.

What people, mostly men (of which I am one) forget is that at the guts of the feeling men have about other guys being wrongly accused of rape is "that's unfair, that destroys lives".

The same thing, but far worse happens to a woman and her family when she is raped so let's keep it in perspective.

My main concern is that cases like this make it harder for women to come forward who have been raped, that's the hidden tragedy here.

What about the countless men who are raped across the country and the world. Missed them didn't you? Do you shrug your shoulders at them or do you just deem them not worthy of being mentioned?

so, she should have the book thrown at her then for making it harder for real rape victims.

at least when a woman is raped she has the sympathy and empathy of everyone around her. with the man you will still get the 'no smoke without fire' people gossiping, he could well lose all his friends and family too.

both are bad but the law is basically saying that lying about rape is such a minor crime it isnt even worth a jail sentence. does this really put of people who might be considering doing the same? nope.

I wonder what the hidden statistics are for false rape allegations (if they are even made public), as i guess this will not be an isolated case, it certainly does send a wrong message when the woman is only sentenced to 200hrs of community service, especially when it causes such long-term stigma and issues for the accused.

On the other hand, its good that they publicly 'outed' the woman, putting the record straight, although that's probably little comfort to the poor bloke that has been through this ordeal.

I'd rather not be coerced into a discussion off topic and then accused of causing the thread to be drifting off topic.

Well could you create a thread elsewhere to explain then? Because I can't see how I could agree with your phrasing without understanding your reasoning behind the comment. And if your not prepared to back it up it's just an inflammatory comment intended to spark a reaction.
