Ducker at The Times revealed it earlier on and McNulty and Greg O'K have said it's true.

Considering he was the most creative player in Europe last season I'm not sure how you can say he wouldn't be worth £12m... £20m would be a steal for him! Or are you one of those who thinks Coentrao is a better player?

There is some nonsense doing the rounds that Arsenal are going cold on Higuain and after Lewandowski instead....

We should take the pair of them, add in Rooney for the lulz and bag Fellaini. Job done, title contenders next season:p

Highly unlikely that Lewandowski would come to us over say City, Chelsea and i suppose Utd to an extent. But i would **** my pants if he did decide to join us...reckon he will go to Bayern, somehow Dortmund and Bayern will come to some sort of agreement come the Jan transfer window.

Are you saying that as a good or a bad thing?

Baines was the most creative player in Europe?

18m for a 28 year old LB would be too much imo, 12m on the other hand would be about right (not sure I'd class even that as a steal but certainly a good price to pay for us to pay)

Upto about 15m for Baines (not that I think Utd will get him for that) and that's reasonable , given that he will probably only be regular 1st team for 3 years if that.

I suppose that figure is also a bit dependant on what Utd manage to get for Evra (as I cant see Utd putting up serious money for Baines without Evra telling the club he might want to go back to France, which I think he has always been open about)

I'm saying it is unfair saying he would only be good for the short term....He has plenty of years left in him

No he doesn't, not the way Utd want their full backs to keep on bombing up and down the length of the field

He might have plenty of years left if he stays where he is - but right at the top, it would be 3 years or so max

I rate Baines and think he'd be an improvement but only for the right price (anything north of £13/14m~ would be getting a bit steep).

I can't see Everton being keen to sell him either.

Certainly other players (midfielders) I'd like to see us get ahead of him though.

By short term I am meaning 3/4 years. Being 28 though he's obviously not going to be our LB for the next 6/7 years like Evra has been.

The other questions is - Is it just a matter of time before Baines joins Utd this summer (I cant imagine Moyes would have bid for him without asking Baines (or his agent?) first, even though there have been numerous quotes from the player saying he wishes to stay)

You are only worth what people are willing to pay at the end of the day, not what people on forums endlessly squabble over what they think you are worth.

Yeah but you can also be overrated and over paid. Compare his wage to rvp. I assume he gets more yet if you had to choose between who to keep, then you get your answer. So rvp is more valuable yet doesn't get paid as well, what does that make Rooney in common sense terms. It's not just my personal opinion it just makes logical sense.

There's nothing wrong with buying a player for the short term anyway, RVP for one is knocking on a bit & probably has 3 good years left in him, what matters is how good those short term years are.
Some players peak earlier in their careers too then get shipped out by their clubs, the trick is getting the best years out of a player whilst you have him.
Just like Chelsea did with Torres...

It depends what you mean by more valuable - great player though Van Persie is I've got my suspicions that Rooney is more marketable in England. If it were purely a consideration of playing ability and form i.e. performance related pay in a pure sense then you'd pay Van Persie more. If you're including commercial value as well as potentially intangibles like effect on team morale etc then it's much less clear cut.

Just like Chelsea did with Torres...

Don't forget Shevchenko...

I love Evra, but I wouldn't be against him being sent to Monaco/PSG and a 15mil or so transfer for Baines.

I would however like to see Buttner/Fabio come on a lot, though. I hope Fabio can do a Rafael.

I see Fellaini touted a lot from Arsenal fans I know, as though they think he's the Viera replacement they have been wishing for.

Where exactly are you going to play the big lug and what sort of player do you think he actually is? You will get 8 good games a year tops from him.

Shhhhhh stop telling them these things!!!

I'm only bitter because my club is in administration and it turns out the only player we've tried to sign in months can't actually be registered so the signing was cancelled. We're doing quite well at releasing players and making them redundant though...

I remember when that was first breaking yonks ago & I thought it wouldn't happen :o:(
Hopefully some decent bids come in before the deadline and the administrators can find a solution :)
