Anyone have a 2013 Subaru BRZ?

That would be an awesome first car.

Normally this is the part where I tell you to get something cheap if it is your first car. But I am not going to. Welcome to motors, you will fit right in.

Just please expand on your post on what you want from a car and what you want to know about the BRZ/GT86. What are you daily needs etc...

Edit: Just noticed you are only 21. Have you looked at the insurance on one of these? Going by your age and it being your first car, I could see insurance companies laughing you off the phone or seeing if you are silly enough to pay £3k+ premium. If you have built experience up as a named driver on another policy, you might be ok.

Given the ability to own a 2013 car as a first car, I'd be willing to bet that cost of insurance isn't much of an issue.

It also depends when the OP passed their test. I get reasonable quotes even with 0 no claims at 21, though I've driven for 3 years (held license for 3+ years too). If he's a new driver (in the sense of held license for <1 year) then yes insurance will be silly.

Hence the end bit of my post you quoted :p

I would want a GT86 over the brz. Cheaper and more readily available. Plus I prefer the front end.

drove a GT86 and would have one in an instant.

Epic first car if legit.

Welcome to motors :D

I want to see pics with a loaf of hovis on the bonnet.

I don't know about the Subaru but I believe Spaz is the guy to ask about the GT86.

Thread has both good and bad potential though, will depend on if the OP is a "dreamer" or not. :D

All I can tell you is it's pretty awesome in grid2 :D

My friend's a motoring journalist and he preferred the scooby to the Toyota when reviewing, but I think it's dependant on what you prioritise when choosing a car - well obviously, but you know what I mean.

Literally passed my test a little over a month ago. And actually my budget is pretty tight at around 23k and this was a car I noticed around that sort of price that had good reviews. (was also told to go japanese) Only problem my local dealership only has the 2012 model right now. I'm admittedly a bit of a newbie to the motoring world but eager to get stuck in! I'm just lucky that my dad is willing to fork out for me.

My main hope is to find a car that looks good and is fun to drive while being reliable. This car seemed to fit that bill. However I'm by no means not interested in your take on other alternatives :)

Haha thanks! I'll take a look at the GT86.

What's all this about bread? I'm a caeliac!

Go for it if you've got £23k you can and want to spend on it. It's always worthwhile looking at what you'll get at a year old for the same cash too but the BRZ/GT86 would be quite a good "my first rwd car" I reckon

I wouldn't jump straight into a £23k car after only passing your test a month ago. You haven't had chance to get a feel for what you really want out of a car, and diving into a depreciation time bomb such as the GT86 or BRZ doesn't make sense to me.

Unless you can get some serious time with the car and try out a lot of other stuff, I'd buy something much cheaper to start you off with.

This car and many others will fit that bill.

Coeliac? That's fine, use a loaf of Sainsbury's FreeFrom, Genius, or Warburton's Newburn :)

don't use a loaf of DS, because that would involve buying a loaf of DS and it's pretty rank ;)

Hummm.. Think I am in the dreamer camp but am prepared to be corrected... Even if I had the money and just passed my test I wouldn't ever consider dropping even half that on a first car. First cars usually get bumped, scraped, dinged, kerbed etc no matter how well you drive or how careful you are.

Spend £5K on a yaris and then get your "Dream" Car 6-12 months later when you are used to the roads, peoples driving traits, traffic, idiots, parking, judging the size of your car etc.
