15 Yr Old Girl Invents New Torch

I still don't see what the point of inventing things like new torches. Just get a wind up one.

:p

In all seriousness, shouldn't they implement something similar to this (a trial through Le Mans type cars?), whereby they cover all areas above the exhaust (and engine/other hot areas of the car) with this material, so we can harvest the wasted heat energy back, counting towards powering the electrical systems for motor vehicles? Heard it here first! ™ :)

Such negativity, did you do any better at 15?

*throws hand in air*

I did! I made a peltier powered torch when I was 14! didn't play with it for long though as the difference in temperature between the hot/cold side using bodyheat as the hot side source was not sufficient to produce enough usable energy, at least using the rubbish 80w ebay special element I had at the time. And that was using the heat from the forearm rather than hands. Elements with a higher efficiency may be available now.

Respect to the girl for being interested in tech.

You would have to cool the other side, i.e attach some heatsinks, those heatsinks add weight and drag to the car, it would be more efficient to just use a alternator and take that energy directly from the engine.

Her Dad probably did it all for her.

I think so tho no idea why or what for - she stumbles for a moment a lot on even the basic terminology that someone with that knowledge wouldn't even have to think about combined with lots of cuts its definitely been very canned to try and make her look like some kind of child genius.

or she could have just prepped the script and read off it to get the idea across clearly with no 'ummms' or 'like' or other imbetweens we use when expressing information.

Body heat is there all the time, it could be used to generate electricity to store it after all you don't use a flash light 24/7 but you could wear something in a small enough form that could charge it and then provide enough light when you want it to.

Still think using radio waves is the best way to go though for wireless energy.

Was she saying tile or towel? Either way it sounded weird. Torch was crap as well, but fair play to her, she's a lot smarter than I am.

I was in Victoria two weeks ago, just saying.

Too many negative nancys here. She's 15 - give her credit when due. She probably did have some form of help but it's still a lot more than what 15 year olds are doing in my area.
