A week ago I got a quote for my insurance and set the date to insure to todays date.

£620 for the year. I was happy with that, so waited till today - went to my email that I'd received a few days ago, titled "It's still not too late to get your insurance".

There was no option of buying the insurance at the original quote after logging in, you're then forced to run another quote, immediately getting rid of the previous quote.

A weeks difference, and I'm now getting quotes of £720.

What a surprise, you can only contact Compare the market by post or email...

Any one have any other recommendations for a comparison site? Admiral were coming up cheapest, and I'd rather be paying nearer the £600 mark for this years insurance. Annoyingly, Admiral are always more expensive directly over the phone.

Getting £803 from Money Supermarket.

This is ****** nuts.

How can there be a £100 variation on the same site within a week, and £200 variation from one site to another?

I always renew in advance as the quotes are always cheaper.

Usually when explaining this on the phone you can push the price down.

Which insurer was the initial quote with? You should ring that insurer and tell them what you was quoted the week before and see if they can honour it.

Right, all solved!

Thumbs up to Admiral, who were the company that came up cheapest.

I called them directly, mentioned my previous quotes and they were then able to look back through all of the past quotes and find the £620 quote).

They managed £640 (I increased my yearly milage and a few bits, hence the change) for 12 months or £540 for the 10 month accelerator. Which is great because some of the comparison sites were showing £700+ for a 10 month bonus accelerator.

Always start looking for insurance 4 weeks before your policy ends. I've always found it to be considerably cheaper 3-4 weeks in advance than looking a week before. It's because they know you need insurance so they've got you by the nuts :)

I swear its just to stress me. I always feel like I've ended up getting the quote I want, but it's like a test to see if I'm willing to fork up a bit extra. :p

Exactly. It's almost like buying flights.

£730 10 month accelerator for the wife. Or aviva multicar want £425 to add to my policy. Seperate NCD's Both protected onky downside is my excess has jumped up another £150. Still saved £300 though

When its time for my renewal I use a couple of comparison sites. I can then list the top 4 quotes from each and then go directly to each of the websites and get "real quotes".
I use the price comparison site to simply give me a list of company's it looks viable to then contact.
Once I've got my lowest possible quote I go back to my current insurer and invite them to match - if not I cancel there and then and buy the new one.
