Ministers have agreed that six artificial food colourings should be phased out after research found a link with hyperactivity in children.

The Food Standards Agency called for the voluntary removal earlier this year while European regulators work to agree a continent-wide ban.

The food colourings should now be phased out by 2009.

Just read the ingredients on my wife's Amoxicillin and it still contains this banned food colourant?

Are the rules for food and drugs different?

Just curious.

Yes. Very different.

Hmm ok.

is your wife eating her amoxicillin by the bag full every day?

and is she a small child?

I'm not seeking an agenda or claiming anything, i was just asking a question...

tiny amounts will have no effect whatsoever.

I'm not concerned, just i thought both food and drug E Numbers were universal, so a ban for the use in food meant the same for the drugs.

Is it old amoxycillin, or stuff she had prescribed in the past week?
You sholdnt keep old medicines, especially antibiotics.

Being a nurse I know medication and I can say that the colouring in food and drugs is the
laws and stuff that surround this area are totally different, the amount to which goes into
drugs such as Amoxicillin is a small trace compared to what was used in food, As it literally
is only used for people in the medical profession to identify the table incase they are needed to.
Hence why it also has letter on the tablet as well.

where did you get banned from?
its a voluntary withdrawal, with EU looking at a ban, but no ban issued.

Found EU in 2010 said the six colourants had to be specifically labelled, but still nothing about an outright ban

On July 20, 2010 new food coloring legislation went into effect in the EU which requires special labeling of foods containing six colorants. - See more at: http://www.befoodsmart.com/blog/tag/quinoline-yellow/#sthash.CNGeTVFO.dpuf

What, every single nurse in the country, or just the odd few that you've happened to speak to?

the many I've had to deal with any the many my brother (doctor) has had to deal with.

there's a reason they can't do anything medication wise but carry the drugs over to the patient.
