Thiago or Hazard.....will be interesting to see who comes out on top ( I think its fair to say if Utd had got Hazard its less likely thiago would be so interested in joining)

Admittedly slightly different roles, but not that dis-similar

What?

They are totally different positions! Thiago is a central midfielder, Hazard is pretty much a winger.

It's much like the whole Kagawa or Hazard debate, it quite clearly wasn't. It was Kagawa plus either Hazard or Moura as a winger.

.

he doesn't hug the byline (from what I have seen of him) as much as traditional wingers - a lot of him time imo is very central

He is an "attacking" midfielder - admittedly as part of a 3 - but even so , not really a true winger

Whether you want to lable Hazard as a winger, an attacking midfielder, an outside forward or an inside forward he's still nothing even remotely similar to Thiago who's very much a central midfield player.

there aren't many traditional wingers in the game these days, Valencia is one, but neither Young, nor Nani are, nor is Ronaldo, Di Maria, Hazard etc. But you'd still start them out-wide and allow them to travel (and have the wing-back travel the line), so Kagawa was never going to be competing with Hazard had he not decided to move for money.

Thiago plays majority of his games too far forward to be "central" - definitely more advanced than a normal CM (and Im meaning between the goals, rather than centre compared to wide - in the latter, of course he is more central) compared to Kagawa at his best who is a No 10 / false No 10

I'm pretty sure he doesn't, most of his appearances are as a traditional CM or, on a rare occasion a DM. Hense why he isn't getting too much game time, because he is touted as the 'Xavi replacement'.

He isn't an advanced CM.

It's one of the reasons I'm not that arsed if Rooney goes, I really want to see Kagawa off Van Persie in Europe and the PL and Hernandez getting more game time with RvP dropping deeper when we go all out attack.

Thiago would be a great addition and I would love to see him next to Carrick in a 2 man midfield but I can't help thinking we need someone who isn't afraid to put their foot in when we lose the ball as well. Wanyama at 12million or whatever he is would be my pick. Failing that Strootman who seems to be a box to box type as well. Thiago rotating with Kagawa and drifting from the left/right if need be.

I really do think we are going to move away from out and out wingers like Chelsea, Arsenal and City have which would be a real shame I still think that if you have 2-3 good wingers in your squad you've got a chance against the teams that tend to play narrower.

As stated earlier (or it might have been the formation thread), this is the heritage of the club, so it would be a great pity to see that disappear.

Its also appears to be a lot more difficult (in the big games) to win those vital points if you go more directly man to man - same formation etc.

The more options and versatility in the squad the better

May be so but we tend to get over run in midfield when playing against 3 central midfielders, we need to have the option of both but it looks like Thiago is staying at Barca anyway so I think we definitely need more steel in there to be able to front up if we need to.

Firstly no he doesn't, secondly lets say he did that doesn't mean that's his position; Spain played Fabregas up front during the entire Euro 2012 tournament that doesn't make him a striker just as us sticking Rooney in midfield doesn't make him a midfielder.

Seems like a reasonable opening bid to me, not that I think it'll be accepted.

Given he's being a nob and only has 2 years left on his contract, probably 25-30 million is about right.

Rooney.

£20m? Yeah no chance we're accepting that.

£20m to get him off the wage bill isn't too bad (look at what Tevez went for. It's for the same reason.) That said, I can't see him going for that, but I think £25-£26m would be accepted.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being something like £20m and Vermaelen though (which wouldn't excite me at all, but is a cheaper alternative to Garay.)

I can't see Rooney going to Arsenal, especially if Arsenal do tie up a deal for Higuain.
As an Arsenal fan I would prefer to have the latter than Rooney, not saying Rooney isn't good, but he has attitude problems :p

Now we're being linked with Torres ans well as bidding for rooney. I think wenger is looking at his scouting reports from 5 years ago :p

Next we will be linked with cantona and shearer

Either that or wengers been playing fm 2008
