Hah, Yale tat for £300? Save your money and get a proper panel.
If you can wire a plug and understand a DVD recorder, you can fit one of these.

£87.50

Thanks, might go for that. Any else suggest another intruder alarm?

I fitted an Infinite Prime wireless system last year. Took me about a day. All the PIRs and Door/Window contacts are wireless, but the bell box is hard wired so that added a bot of time. There's a GSM unit which is set to call my mobile in the event of activation. There's also a home automation module (at extra cost). No problems with false activations.

That said, I appreciate it only has limited value and have also spent money on good quality locks on doors.

:'(

It's bad about home insurance premiums though, although if I had one, I'd want to leave it on over night and whilst out.

The only thing in this house I'd be mad if was stolen would be family pictures and sentimental items however insurance doesn't cover those.

We had a spate of burglaries in peoples houses whilst the people were sleeping in the house in our area. We've got 3 kids and the bedrooms are separated over the first and top floor so we installed a wireless yale alarm mainly to alert us whilst we're in the house asleep and secondly as a deterrent. None of our neighbours have alarms and we made the assumption the opportunistic burglar would choose a house without an alarm over a house with. The alarm we got is good, it's very loud indoors and out and calls us if the alarm goes off. We've had a number of false alarms due to the placement of one of the IR sensors in the sun lounge, if theres a sudden temperature shift (hot sunny day, sun goes behind cloud, temperature drops, sun comes out of cloud, temperature rises and the sensor thinks someones in the sun lounge).

Alarm is the Yale wireless set, we got it for about £150 on one of the homebase special discount weekends.

I don't feel to bad where I live at the moment, we're in a culdesac of a culdesac, and we have had new windows and doors fitted recently and there's quite a few houses around that haven't, so I'm sure they'd be easier targets.

houses on dead ends or in cul-de-sacs are more attractive to burglars

Prime wireless system for me with a couple of CCTV cameras thrown in just for the fun of it.

It's all about showing opportunist thieves that they should do next door rather than you. :)

I used to work in a Juvenile Prison and not one inmate was ever put off by a dog in the house.

You should ask the scumbags around here then, they know not to even attempt it after my dog ripped one scumbags arm to shreds trying to break in, now they all know the risks.

I seriously doubt that all scumbags talk to one another, it just means nobody has attempted since.

@troops I think you're being a little over dramatic, if you're dog did seriously rip his arm to shreds the dog would have been put down and you'd be facing charges.

You mean the ones which were caught?

Does it matter if they were caught or not?
The fact is that dogs didn't put them off and just remember these little scrotes hadn't been caught just for one house but burgle many houses before being caught.

Oh, and come out after a month and repeat cycle

I have an excellent alarm system.

Now where's my tv? I'm sure it was in the corner of the room. Oh well, I must have mislaid it somewhere.

Not being dramatic at all, his arm and hand were full of puncture wounds.
From what i remember the law states that the dog is protecting himself if he cant escape and due to the fact its private property.

The dog is very well trained in protection but the police made a note of his details in case of future incidents.
