Games you didn't finish, and why

Skyrim - probably did too many of the side quests so got burnt out after 100 or so hours and the dragons got a bit repetitive. I keep planning on going back to it but my latest attempt was kyboshed because my stupid faulty G500 keeps releasing the left mouse button so I can't hold an arrow back.

Witcher games, I don't know why but I just find them dull.
Dead Space 1/2 - again got bored.
Dead Island, played 2 hours and never touched it again.
Borderlands. Probably the same reason as Dead Island actually, it just felt like grinding in an MMO without the other people.

There are a tonne of games ive been really excited about but after playing them once, ive never touched them again:

- hitman games
- half-life games
- portal
- crysis 1-3
- cod (single player)
- skyrim
- oblivion
- witcher 2

If the game doesnt grip me in the first five minutes, it doesnt get launched again.

EDIT: i recognise that the games in the list above are blockbuster games, but perhaps the reason i didnt like them is that they had such hype and hysteria around them that i was expecting a lot more?

Borderlands 2 - got to the circle of death missions which hacked me off entirely and never bothered continuing. It lacked something from the first game.

Spec Ops: The Line - Lots of people highly praise this game for its dark story, but sadly i cant ignore the shoddy gameplay mechanics, to the point where it just ruins the whole game for me. Ill never finish it or play it again, its a **** game.

GTA IV - Completely lacked the magic of all of the past games, Liberty City just felt dull and oppressive.

Borderlands 2 - No fun without friends.

Skyrim - Raced through the main quests but never got round to doing many of the side quests, then accidentally deleted my save and could not be bothered to go and do it all over again.

Fallout NV - Just don't like the setting of any of the Fallout games. Also didn't like being dropped in the middle of nowhere with no clear direction of where to go next.

Literally five minutes?

That's a pretty tough expectation. I can think of a few games that took longer than that to get interesting.

This, most of the time. But it sometimes depends what mood I am in, as a few games in the past were a little hard work to get into, but sometimes a little perserverance pays dividends.

I'm going to add Sleeping Dogs to this list. I'm not sure why it gets such praise, it's pretty bad. The combat is like Batman, which is OK but not my cup of tea.

What really lets this game down is that the driving is plain awful. Really, really bad. There's even a button which you press to "ram" the car in front. Instead of naturally accelerating and using your speed/momentum/direction as you would in real life, you have a button which *instantaneously* drops you into warp speed for 1/4 second, and can be used almost from standstill. In the first card chase I used this from kerb-crawling speed, and watched my van super-sonically throw the car in front 20 feet into the air. Pretty much sums the game up, really.

Thankfully GTA5 is around the corner, because Dogs isn't going to get me my driving/anarchy fix any time soon.

Completely agree the game is dreadful. Feels like it was designed for a 3 year old. Had to stop playing in the end it was so bad.

I recently purchased DOOM 3 BFG Edition from Game for £5 as I hadn't played the RoE expansion. I played DOOM 3 about 5 years ago and completed it so I must have at least enjoyed it.

This time round though I really struggling to continue as the game is just a complete bore. It brought back memories of how god awful the gun sound effects were and general combat. You fire a gun and you can barely hear it as it makes a little tapping sound. Throw a grenade and it explodes like a wet fart. The only enemy that's fun to kill are the zombies. I doubt I'll probably be able to finish it.

There are some good mods around. I wouldn't play it now without one of those installed.
