Is it legal to deny housing based on age?

I've just been denied renting a property due to age (I'm 25) is this legal?

her gaf, her rules surely ? Isn't it like the geeser who ran a B&B and didn't let homosexuals stay there ?

Surely if its privately rented then the landlord can refuse to let it out if she doesn't like the cut of your jib ?

depends who she want's in her property. 2 guys can very easily = parties and problems.

Never met the landlord, done through an agency and she's denied us based on age and sex.

Yeah its legal, her private property she can rent to who she wants.

However you should advise her to put in her advert it is for couples only, as its wasting peoples time.

I'd imagine they're on shaky ground denying you on those grounds but would you really want to push it and move in knowing the landlady is probably going to be as difficult as possible when it comes to dealing with you.

AFAIK (and IANAL, etc.), it's not discrimination unless she is specifically denying you on the grounds that you are male (and therefore she would accept an application from two women in otherwise similar circumstances - it doesn't sound like that's the case).
