Old car eating up money - What to do ?

Keeping it does seem the best at the moment, even with all the bills! - I just really like the idea of a bigger car, a motorway cruiser like mentioned.

The annual tax is 225 or something, its less for a 1.9 diesel bora. Think its ~175. I just dont like shelling out 225 at once, I used to when I first got it, however lately been unsure weather I would be selling it within the next 6 months. It hardly saves much paying annually anyway, least I dont get an even bigger dent in my salary for that month.

You know you can claim the tax back if you sell it?

Ah yeah I did, main reason is simply cash strapped come tax renewal time.

Been thinking last couple days about the fuel economy of the car, it gets about 400 motorway miles to a tank (costing approx 60 quid if I run it into the reserve a bit).

Will be doing 300 miles a week (Not always, as part of the job is travelling away for few days using a company car)

1200m a month, approx £180 a month for fuel. Is that reasonable ? Of course seems a lot because its a fair chunk out of my salary. There are of course better economy cars out there, but its having the cash for one. Am I likely to see much savings having a diesel (vw bora in this instance)

Just thinking of the option of rather keeping the clio, keeping it going etc, and then saving even longer for something much newer than a bora, and a small hatchback with an eco engine or something...

If you want a new car get it, just don't use the repairs as an excuse. If you can't afford a new car better the devil you know.

I am sure quite a few people on this forum would love to have 'only' spent £1200 in the last year not only in the last 3 years!

My car had cost me over £1500 in last year, not including fuel and tax.

The car you have, whilst not the best cruiser is still cheap to own and run. You change up a class in car and you increase running costs.

See how you go for a little while, save up a little bit and get a car you would like rather than just buying for the sake of it.
