New (old) house renovation to have distributed AV!

impressive so far although it does sadden me seeing great lumps having to be ripped out of the plaster for doing wiring. Up here its so much easier with timber frame inner leaf on external walls (as he sits in his ex council house with cavity block, lined on the inside :p)

Yeah it is rather annoying to be honest but its the house ive chosen, mainly down to cost to be honest. Ideally i would love to have built my own house, timber frame and boards.

In years to come if i do decide to move out i will hope to have a house built or strip a house to external walls and completely re-build the internal with timber frame.

More Filling, got most of this room done, just need to order another RCA cable online to put in the rear wall as the 10m one i had bought wasnt long enough

New Monitor Audio C180-T2 in place in the bathroom, sounds amazing. Very impressed, more than i thought i would be.

Today was my only day off this week, i plan to be there more next week as i have 2 days holiday booked in as well as a weekend off i believe, me and my father filled more of the chases in today whilst the boiler was being moved. Its very slowly coming back together, more will need plastering than i originally thought but a bit extra work will be worth it in the end.

Just out of interest did you only put one speaker in the bathroom? What dimensions are your bathroom as this is one of my upcoming projects and not sure whether to just have one or two.

Did you install a fire box or whatever it is called in the bit in the ceiling to protect it? Would love to see some more pics of its installation.

I think it's a stereo speaker in a single unit chap.

Its a single speaker stereo unit hence the 2 tweeters, bathroom is 2500mm x 1700mm. It does have a 8" mid/bass driver so its probably too powerful for the space but I love my music.

I didn't put a fire hood in as its the loft straight above so not needed, the speakers themselves are fire rated to a certain degree but any speakers between living space and the unoccupied space (loft) don't require a hood.

The downstairs 5 will require a hood, I'll try and get some pics of one being installed next time I take it out to put it back in.

Well the heating engineer that first came out quoted £350 for the boiler moving, other quotes came in at nearly £600 as with yours, if your just moving yours up the wall i dont see why there should be so much costs, its only extending the pipe that is there and moving the flue. mine is moving into a completely different room. i'm actually getting the first guy to come out to move the boiler in the next weeks when he can fit me in as hes pretty booked up.

£350!? That sounds like a bargain. I think I need to get a few more quotes.

Ended up being £430 due to the length of the flue needed to go where I wanted it. £80 for a 1m metal pipe

Boiler is now moved completely plumbed in and working with 91% efficiency, for an 11 year old boiler im quite impressed.

Edit: boiler has an issue where it's gaining pressure on its own, this is gonna be about anothe £150 to fix but other than this it works well and is surprising how good condition it's in for its age.

Do you know what the actual fault is, or is it £150 to find the fault?

My boiler was doing something similar, causing the PRV to kick in. Fortunately, it's just a knackered filling loop (constantly filling, despite being off) and I sorted it myself for a few quid.

The guy currently fitting our windows has put me in touch with a gas fitter that might be able to move my boiler for half of my current best quote. Fingers crossed...

Well with my boiler the fillup loop is integral and cant be fixed on the cheap its a part that has to be bought from vaillant, its either that or the secondary heat exchanger, either option has part cost of £105 + labour to fit, he's going today to find out what the fault is and then we'll go from there.

Small update: the boiler was the fill up loop but my heating guy has managed to find the part at a fraction of the cost at £35! Just that plus fitting to pay!

Not been able to do anything with being at work but I believ my dad is going to go tomorrow and do some more filling of the holes left by the electrician.

Thanks for the update mate. If I was going to put wooden boarding down in the loft to make it easier for storage, would I need to put fire boxes down then?

No, you would only need a fire hood if it was a lived in space e.g. loft conversion to bedroom, somewhere someone would be living.

Another small update unfortunatley not a lot going on, ive made a start on the plumbing, once this is done i'll be filling the rest of the holes left by the electrician and getting the bathroom installed and 2nd fix electrics done.

Removed the kitchen sink for now.

More Boards up in the bathroom for the new routing of the pipes

Moving the pipes downstairs to the side of the room rather than the middle to allow them to be boxed in, in the corner to make it look a bit neater.

I plan to get all of the plumbing done by the weekend, im doing this again myself with supervision from the dad to tell me if im doing it right. once this is done then the bathroom can be test fit, get all the pipes in the right place and then i can start with sorting the floor, im probably going to lift all the boards and put down sheets of ply so i can tile straight on top or just re sit the floor boards and board over the top.

Some great work there...don't give up on it.

Just out of curiosity, what laser gadget did you use for the levels and lines in the bathroom tiles? Am looking to get one for when I eventually get my own place and have to do stuff like this

Really enjoying watching the progress here. Looks very similar to the renovation ive been doing for the last 10 months. I'm in the same boat in regards to doing almost everything between me and my dad, you learn a lot and save a lot but it doesnt half take its tole working all day then working in the house at night and weekends :o I want my life back lol. Might get round to posting some pictures once I evntually get in.

Keep up the good work!

Just looking at the third picture in the above 'set'... you aren't joining a new piece of copper pipe onto the old lead (or whatever) system are you?

Or is that only a temporary measure? If not I would personally recommend replacing all the old stuff with new copper, while you are about it.

I think it will be worthwhile in the long run!
