What graphics card have you got? Is this to use or just to see who can spec the cheapest pc?

My friends PC is bust and I can't work out if it's the motherboard or the cpu as I'm out of parts to test it, initially I was just looking to buy a motherboard and see if that works but it's becoming really tiresome trying to find such old models.

He's got a working PSU, HDD, Graphics card & DDR2 RAM. So ideally I need a DDR2 motherboard and cpu.

Its more likely that DDR3 + Motherboard + Ram comes to a similar cost than DDR2 Supported Board + CPU, and why spend money to be a few gens behind, for a little extra your friend could be current gen

Estimated cost = £9

^ Great build, but will it run Crysis? :D

Yes. Yes it will.

Not really relevant to your problem, but my cheapest PC is my HP Microserver. £190 delivered, with £100 cashback, giving me a £90 brand new "PC". Added a graphics card for £30 et voila, works perfectly for web browsing and media type work.

In your case, you could do with at least getting the same technologies and CPU socket etc.

In all honesty I'm fairly impressed with my raspberry pi. For surfing and video it's just superb. I run it as a web server now, but its a great PC. Just add screen mouse and keyboard.

I bought this for £85 the other week...

Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel E2200 Dual Core 2.20GHz, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 80GB HDD, DVDRW, 90 Day Warranty (Refurb)

There is always a cheap PC just around the corner no matter where you are.

My latest build or rather builds, cos I have ended up with 3 of the buggers, is a Media Center PC for as little money as possible.

The first PC was given to me, I upped it as much as I could, GFX,Sound and CPU all for under a tenner but it was still iffy.

Few extra bits and I ended up with an AMD x2 4800 with 4GB RAM, GT210 GFX, Asus Xonar DG Audio, and 400GBHD and its cost me around £50 in total.

Im actually fairly chuffed with it. i might even use it properly too... I only knocked it up cos Im bored but the idea is a better one than I thought.
