Thanks for reading people im buying a new graphics card and need your help....

Im currently running 2x nvidia 8800 GTX ultras in SLI from a long time ago, quite a few of my mates laugh at this but hell they do the job the other day one of them died so im going to move on to a newer Direct X 11 card, im willing to spend upto £400 (on a single card not going sli or crossfire this time)

My question is what do I buy a Nvidia 770 series card or a AMD 7970 series? when posting please explain why your choice is better.

If it makes any difference to your choice I`m currently running a Phenom II x6 1090t on a highend asus amd based MB with 8 GB of RAM

thanks for the suggestions.

They have about the same performance...

With a £400.00 budget you can buy any of them, I would go for a MSI Lightning for both Or just buy a 7950 and put the £180.00 that you will save on a SSD and/or save for the next upgrade.

so the 7970 isn't really worth the performance boost against the price?

7950 is best value card around but personally if I had £400 to spend I would go for that msi 7970 lighting that's on offer with the free mouse and 8 games.

7950 is enough to max out nearly every game that's out when playing at 1080p 60hz it might be better just getting one of them and saving the change :)

For 7970 id go for msi lightning or asus 7970 matrix platinum.

My brother has and used the 780, 770, 7970 They are all great cards but just out of personal preference and for the price obtained im in for the 7970.

Also it may be worth your while to wait a few months? as there may be amd's new GPU's coming near to BF4's release.

I would go for the GTX 770 MSI lightnings if i had that budget seems to be a few fps faster than my EVGA 770 and is around £390 range i believe.

Any of them card choices would be decent though :)

Lightning, either or tbh though as mentioned the 7970 version comes with a shed load of freebies including 8 games, a gaming mouse and a gaming surface. Oh and it's also extremely fast ;)

I have the 770 Lightning and it's a very good card.

But, the 7970 Lightning with all the free games is a no brainer unless you need Nvidia specifics

There was a deal of the day on the KFA 770 OC for 299 a few days back, still available for £319, I believe that's cheaper than the 7970 reference cards ?
Performance is more or less the same as mentioned, but I plumped for the MSi 770 Twin Frozr and very pleased with its stock temps and quiet fans under load :)

This, hell if your planning to sell the games on to recoup some of the cost you can get a pair of 7950's for less than a 770, if I was buying a card right now Nvidia wouldn't even get a look in.

770 Lightning is so fast. Best cards in SLI I've ever owned

This isn't a jab at you or anything, I'm just interested. Considering a pair of 770 Lightnings costs £720 and a pair of 7970 Lightnings costs £620 after selling the games (assuming an average of £10 each), would you still go with the 770's if you were doing it over?

Yes, in a heart beat. Don't care for the games. I can get them any time I want:D

IMO just grab a 7950 and overclock it and enjoy (or sell) the free games.

With just the Phenom II X6, the extra 5%~10% graphic performance on the 7970/GTX770 would most likely not even come into effect...so might as well save yourself £100.
