Madeleine McCann's parents

Crime Editor of The Times just tweeted this...

The arrest of the McCanns perhaps?

I wonder if the MET usually has 37 officers doing one case for oh so many years?

I wonder if this has set a precedent for other missing children.

Statistically the most likely person to kill a young child is it's parents, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was them.

It's been so long you could walk past the girl in the street and not even notice.

Though if she's dead then I've gotta agree the parents seem rather suspicious.

I've always thought:

Leave your children unsupervised=ask for trouble

I have no sympathy for them as the situation they created was asking for trouble.

Are they monitising the situation for their own use?

If they didn't have anything to do with her disappearance then maybe they think they are doing the right thing without realising how it is making them look.

I know we all have our suspicions about the parents, but when you look at cases where other children have gone missing & how quickly it has been solved, then it makes me think twice about this.

Perhaps we should all sheath our accusations and support them. If they have nothing to do with it, and it really is all a tragically terrible event, then it must be hell not only having your daughter missing for all this time but to also be almost accused of it by the general public after so much time.

I have no idea who took or potentially killed the girl, however her a parents were clearly negligent and should have been at the least investigated by social services and the police.

Indeed that aspect as-well seems to be washed over.

I also have no idea if they did or not, just I'll stick with the averages either way.

I agree, but would like to add my own following thought that what happened is utterly nightmarish to a parent and can never be called deserved, surely? Some of the things people say about the family seems to be speculation of the most base and flagrant kind. Even if the parents were eventually found guilty of the girl's murder, the detractors could never know that, so why do these parties insist on offering strong opinions against the family?

People rarely seem to research their opinions first - a crime all the more inexcusable considering the wealth of free knowledge accessible to all thanks to the net.

Theres a very fine line between general mourning and capitalizing on sympathy.

Why does it keep dying down for a few years then suddenly there is a new revelation or new evidence?

It's like they're low on cash and need some column width to fill the bank.

She's dead and we'll probably never know who did it.

I hold little hope of any decent evidence showing itself after 6 years. Every day that passes, this miniscule chance of closure with the case becomes even smaller.

Indeed....particularly the last statement.

People are dumb.

My God, case closed. This man knows exactly what happened.
