My Dad currently uses a Galaxy Ace 2 which is a decent phone and doesn't really have any problems apart from the horrible outdated OS.

I noticed that the Razr I can be had for £159.99 which seems like a good price but I'm struggling to figure out whether it would be worth the upgrade for him? The Razr I is only a single core CPU but I think the display is of a higher quality.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Have you tried flashing the official Jelly Bean update to it? Don't think it appears as an OTA for the UK yet (well, it hasn't for my Mum's Ace 2) but it has for other countries so you can grab a zip of it from places like XDA.

What does your Dad usually do on the phone?

EDIT: And nevermind, the JB update did arrive... my mum's stock ROM was not UK for some reason... a little Odin fixed that ;).

Razr i is meant to be a great phone. I think the CPU has hyperthreading too, definitely faster than the ace 2.

He uses it mainly for web browsing, youtube, music, think he even uses it as a Sat Nav aswell so it certainly gets a lot of use.

I would just want to be sure it would be a worthy upgrade before the cash was parted with.

I heard the RAZR I has some issues with app compatibility? I guess thst must be mainly games though. You've only had the Ace 2 minutes :p

RAZR I is much better afaik. Yes it's an Intel CPU and there were some issues with app compatibility but overall it's a step up.

I think what concerns me is that they don't really seem like a popular phone. Looking on xda forums and people don't seem to be saying that much about them.

I think they were initially overpriced and now aren't really sold any more. They were priced really highly so there were better phones for the money.

Well it looks like JB is coming to it so I'm not sure it is worth the hassle of swapping, plus with the RAZR i I'm not sure if Intel CPUs lag behind ARM for Android updates in general.

What was the original criteria for the phone? Perhaps there's something else worth considering if you're wanting more recent software.

Does anyone else actually have one then? What are your thoughts?

Razr i? Yes I've had one for a while. Paid too much for it really but in honesty it's a good enough phone. Only app incompatibility has been flash and Catchup TV. If you miss catchup TV then My Player+ works. Battery good, signal good, voice good, even as a music player it's good enough in my case using Player Pro. Handy little phone really. Too expensive when it was released and the intel processor is a bit of an oddball but good enough and doesn't spank the battery. Single core but has hyperthreading. Now updated to jellybean and dunno if it'll go any further. Knowing Motorola then not. HTC One or Samsung GS4 it ain't but it's a not bad mid range phone and at £160. Trust me your dad will like it. BTW web browsing flies on it.

I got chance of a second hand Razr HD that had had little use. I dunno why but temptation got the better of me :D and so now use it instead of the Razr i.
