Arsenal are seriously trimming the books it seems. Mannone, Djourou, Coqulain and according to transfer league this list: Jordan Wynter, Elton Monteiro, Craig Eastmond, Martin Angha, Kyle Ebecilio, Sanchez Watt, Denilson, Andrei Arshavin, Conor Henderson, Daniel Boateng, James Shea, Jernade Meade, Josh Rees, Nigel Neita, Philip Roberts, Reice Charles-Cox, Samir Bihmoutinel, Sead Harjovic, Sebastian Squillaci, Zach Fagan

I know they're not all first team players but they were all taking up some wages, but more importantly coaching time and resources at the club in general. That is probably in excess of £200k/week off the books.

That is WAY more thatn 200k a week off the books. Arshavin was around 90k a week on his own.

Sanchez Watt got games despite never looking remotely close to first team quality while Meade looked half decent and barely got a chance despite us having very little ahead of him in the first team.

Are those all players released/sold or, how many of those are on loan. At some stage I wouldn't be surprised for someone to slap Wenger in the face and make him get rid of all the dead weight youngsters. For this season we really needed to get shot of Sagna and see if we could shift Gibbs, he's very poor defensively and he just doesn't strike me as a good player offensively, its only against very dodgy teams he can look somewhat penetrating down the wing and we so rarely see clever interplay between him and any midfielders, good overlap play. Its just against worst teams who sit deeper he just uses pace to run up the wing and his crossing is mostly poor.

Fullbacks are so massive in football, great defensively makes a huge difference and great offensively can give you basically "proper" wingers while letting you play guys like Ronaldo or Podolski who prefer to get in towards the box and end up with 2-3 strikers rather than a lone striker, makes all the difference. Overall the massive youth squad we have has produced painfully painfully little over the past 15 years.

Coquelin and Djourou are only out on loan.

Annoyed we've released Meade as he was potentially the 2nd best LB at the club, although he's arguably too small to play as a defender English game (he makes Arshavin look like Peter Crouch by comparison).

Even if they are out on loan, we aren't paying them as much. Probably closer to £300k/week which is £15m a year from the wage bill. Easily be able to afford some decent players now. Easily.

Not sure how I feel about this tbh. Looks a very good signing but we have just broken our own transfer record to buy a player in the area we are arguably strongest. We seemt to have had a fetish for buying CM's for the last 10 years?!

We desperately need at least 2 strikers, at least one of them a world class bank buster!

We need cover on the flanks, especially RB. I'd like to see us upgrade LB from Benny, as much as I love the guy I'd like someone more reliable. Bale leaves a big hole on the left when used through the middle. Lennon can be injury prone and also blows hot and cold, needs more competition over on the right.

Huddlestone, Parker, Livermore, Falque can all leave for me. Jury still out on Dempsey and Siggy, I suppose they don't cost mega money and both can score important goals.

At least Spurs are showing ambition. Something Arsenal havent been doing so far.
