I now finally have a mobo that has USB3 ports, and have a WD Passport USB HDD that is USB3, but when ever i plug this into the USB3 port on the front of my Corsair 650D case i get the pop up bubble from windows saying...

"This USB Mass Storage Device Can Transfer Information Faster If You Connect It To A Super-Speed USB 3.0 Port"

Yet a am connecting it to a USB 3 port??

You have connected the USB 3 Ports to the USB 3 headers on the motherboard!

The board in your sig has two connections, one beside the main 24 pin ATX and the other beside the front port connections for power on and powers led's ect.

:)

Yeah i have connected all wire from the front ports on the case up. But the Corsair 650D case is a bit crap, or though it has 2 USB3 ports on the front upon closer inspection inside the case there is just 2 USB extension cables coming from the USB3 ports so you have to send them out the back of the case and use 2 USB3 ports from the I/O plate on the rear :(

EDIT: have tried connect to one of the USB3 ports on I/O panel and dont get the message at all so they must be working fine, question is why dont the front USb3 ports work then, as i have said there is just 2 usb3 extension cables coming from the USb3 ports on the front of the case and you just run them to 2 spare USB3 ports on the I/O plate??

Wait... so... technically... the HDD is connected to the back 3.0 ports then? I would try the other back USB 3.0 ports and see if the problem still occurs. Just to check, you're using the USB cable that came with the HDD right?

Yeah, im using the white cable that came with the WD Passport HDD. I have tried the drive in one of the USB ports on I/O plate and that works fine. BUT i have just this minute remove the USB cable that comes from the front USB3 panel of the Corsair case and tired the drive in that socket and its saying the same thing, that its not using super speed USb3 socket, but it its a USB 3 socket, as its blue and it even says so beside it. Strange how the set of 4 USB3 sockets are working fine further down the I/O plate but the top 2 dont appear to be working in USb3 mode??

Its the top 2 that appear not to be working in USB3 mode...

Checking the manual it seems not all the USB 3.0 ports are controlled by the Z87 chipset. In fact it seems only two are, while the rest are controlled by two Renesas controllers. And even more silly, the Z87 ones is only avaliable via one of the internal headers!

I guess the top two is probably designed mostly for mouse + keyboard, and probably why it doesn't want to run at top speed.

Really!?? So why label them as USB 3, if there are infact not. I was rather shocked when i notice my old x58 Gigabyte mobo had more USb sockets on the rear then this one does. I expected better from Gigabyte really especially form their Flagship Z87 mobo!!!!

So there is no way to get the top pair of USB '3' sockets to work as they should then??, guess i have to get one of those adapters Puppetmaster linked to above

Ok got one of these Akasa USB3 motherboard adapters,

But still the front supposedly USB3 connection do not appear to work in UBS3 on the Corsair 650D case. Im starting to think the cables that are using from the front USB3 sockets is the problem!!....not sure why they advertise these as front USB3 sockets if they dont actually work!!?
