John Carmack says NVidia drivers are 'consistently superior'

98% of the issues on the official forum is purely down to the game.

you would have an excellent point, if not for the fact that the 7970m has the same issue in multiple games and the fact that one driver will fix one game but the next driver release will re-break the same game

AMD mobility drivers are an absolute joke, particularly it would seem on windows 8, where you frequently have to do a full system restore or even full reinstall of the OS to be able to install a different driver pack

Yes AMD mobility drivers has a world issues no argument there , but you have now moved the goals post and now changed the context from being about AMD issues with MechWarrior online including dektop, to just AMD mobility issues in general which even if AMD mobility had no issues it still would not fix that game because the game is the problem. so my point still stands, nice try though.

no, my main point was always regarding the 7970m if you read my original post on the subject, nice try though

they've managed to fix the same issue on their desktop drivers, but don't seem to be bothered about fixing it with the mobility ones

For me drivers are 50% of the product and whenever I've had an AMD card I spend weeks if not months waiting for fixes, NVidia just works more often than not (they're not perfect but much closer to it).

There was a story a bit back about AMD looking to work more closely with developers hopefully that will improve things for them, there's nothing worse than buying a newly released game and not being able to enjoy it properly due to driver issues which I have always found happens a lot with ATI/AMD.

I'm the opposite, having more Nvidia drivers issues(especially with 320.xx with my 560Ti) at the moment then I ever had with AMD, infact thinking of going back to AMD because of this(plus due an upgrade soon anyway).

Bottomline you can find good and bad on both sides so don't get fooled by headlines or statements you find on the net claiming one side is better.

Where does that leave nVidia drivers? nVidia have released graphics card frying drivers 3 times now.

We all know Nvidia drivers are perfect and bullet proof, "in a pigs eye" ;) .

it doesn't take a seal of approval from carmack to prove AMD drivers suck, its just general knowledge.

Try telling that to my 560Ti card and Reliability History on my PC.

Which could have just said that from the very start and linked original post on the subject and my point still stands, the game is broken there are Mobile NV users who are have issues as well, the game does not play properly for the majority period.

Yes AMD mobility drivers has a world issues just in its self has more merit than the twisting that MechWarrior online issues are down to AMD.

the nv mobile issues are those trying to run it on entry level hardware - not a valid comparison to my point at all

a 7970m / 7850 should run the game fine, the only reason it doesn't is because of a driver level issue

Look im not interested in talking about mobile, it makes no difference, the game is broken. as i said you have no argument from me about AMD mobile driver having lots of issues, you would not have even had a reply from me initially if that was your point, but it was not, the game is broken on many levels of hardware for AMD and NV, so no matter what you say my point still stands that drivers will not fix that game in its current state.

You are pushing nothing but a strawman when it comes to MechWarrior online and drivers.

I would say it's you who are pushing a strawman by claiming the game is broken when it in fact runs fine on the vast majority of hardware

you are completely missing the point of my posting in the first place - I tried AMD a while back when they were "better value" only to have a huge host of problems and having to sell and re-buy NVidia... I've had to do the same again recently and will be doing the same with my laptop once I've decided what to get in it's place

that is my experience of AMD drivers, and that is the topic of the thread, I can totally accept that some people have problems with NVidia and face the same choice, or that some people are willing to put up with work arounds and fixes and things like driver sweeper to get AMD working for them

I do think that people posting up their direct experience is useful for others - if more people had done that before I bought my 7970m, I might not be in the situation I am now, unfortunately I only bothered asking on this forum and got the fluffy bunny brigade telling me AMD drivers were fine, it was only after getting my laptop and being a bit more specific in my searching did I discover that AMD mobililty was fundamentally broken

The polls on the forum say otherwise when it comes to MechWarrior online.
I'm not arguing about your personal experience.
You clearly don't know what a straw man argument means.

Hate it when that happens.

Situation hasn't been great with mobile GPUs the 675m works well, pretty troublefree and reasonable value for money but scraping the barrel for high end performance, 680m has great performance but way too high premium for it and the 7970m well...

I lucked out to a degree as the Samsung has a proprietary PCB for the 675m tho it still uses the stock MXM slot, which is larger and better spaced for cooling than the reference 675m allowing some fairly decent overclocks.

That's not what a strawman argument is.

:o awkward

yes, because polls answered "Yes" by around 100 people out of over 1 million registered users means the game is fundamentally broken

98% of the polls are about issues with the game and not drivers with the game, the list of issues is huge, people would be more interested in workaround for the issues than voting and the forums says 492,221 Total Members and the amount of registers means people interested in that does not mean not broken, its beta they expect issues, 4,935 Most Online, 1,501 users are online, 393 members, 1102 guests .

Well in my experience I tend to agree. I want to love AMD cards because the price/performance is there but the drivers let them down time and again. There weren't even official drivers for the 7970m for over a year, and enduro is just a mess.

Forum users =/= to total number of people who registered for the game

98% is a totally fictitious number, most of the polls on the forum are about what weapons should get buffs, which is totally not the same thing as a bug / driver issue

I don't suffer any game breaking issues with the game, other than the one that I know for a fact is rooted in AMD's drivers or lack thereof

It does not matter, if issues are down to drivers the developers would say so, most of the issues are not.

They're both based on fictitious numbers. Why not just accept that any arguments here about Mech Warrior are based on conjecture and stop pushing your opinions as fact?
