It warmed up early :eek: Last summer I did most of my riding first thing before it gets too warm but it's already 23c and no wind at all. My R5 might melt :p

That would get you nods of approval from many a cycling club member. Personally I think it looks ridiculous, and would urge you to invest in another cycling jersey ;)

I am thinking of having what my boss calls a "spend up"; new tyres and mitts, and potentially a new jersey. I do like my jerseys, after all. I think I know which jersey and mitts I want, so the question is; which tyres to go for? I've never really liked the Vredestein tyres that came with the bike, and so I'm using the recent punctures as an excuse to replace them. Is it all about the Continental 4 Season tyres? Or should I stick with what I know, and see if I can squeeze 28mm Schwalbe Marathon Supremes on?
 
I think 4Seasons are made of hose pipe, but everyone else disagrees.

I think you want 25mm Schwalb Durano.

I also think you want to regularly check your tyres for glass and flint.

I've retired my Duranos & put my winter tyres back on because after coming from the Marathon Plus they just seem too susceptible to flats. I probably should have checked them for embedded debris more often but some of the bits of crap I pulled out of the tyre should have been shrugged off by the liner in my opinion.

Dem 800g each 32mm Marathons though :(

I came to work on my Canyon today seeing as it's nice. God damn that bike shifts compared to my CX...

They do seem to get rave reviews, which is why they sprang to mind. I have 35mm Marathon Supremes on my CX bike and have yet to have a puncture, despite riding through the usual debris you find in cycle lanes (glass, nails etc), which is why I'm tempted to try some 28mm ones on the Van Nicholas. They're quite a lot more expensive and seem to be quite unpopular, judging by the reviews/comments I've seen on them. I guess I don't really want to make the bike feel numb and heavy, given that it's supposed to be my "fast bike".

Which version of the Durano do you think I should go for?
 
Do you think the Ultremo range are too flimsy to be used on the tough streets of Surrey? As much as I want fast tyres, I also don't want to be fixing punctures every time I go out. I think the tread on the Vredesteins might be causing debris to get swept up into the mudguard, which then pinches it back into the tyre, so a completely slick tyre may be the solution. That's just a hunch though, based on the fact that I've not found anything in the tyre when I've replaced the tube.

Edit; I just checked, the current tyres are Vredestein Fiammante in 700x25c.

Durano S are for racing, and Durano Plus are basically Marathon Plus but as a slick.

i am using the s version as an all year tyre. survived the winter no problem. very impressed. a few friends use ultremos all year but thats just asking for trouble
 
I used to use the S on the weekend bike all year round, but I've now moved over to Vittoria Open Corsas and Open Pave.

The S are good tyres (I prefer them to GP4000s).
