You think Villa would let him go for much less than that? We got anything up to £19.5m for Carroll (if you into account add-ons and his loan fee), why on earth would Villa demand anything less than £25m? They wouldn't be forced into selling anyway but this new TV deal has only made them less likely to lower their demands.

Benteke's shown himself to be a very good player and anybody wanting to sign him will have to pay a premium price. Whether that price represents value to the buying club, only they can decide - it depends on how much they specifically want him.

I don't understand the Liverpool link. Look at all the forward players we've signed under Rodgers and the ones we're seriously looking at - they're all versatile players with good movement and the ability to interchange positions. Where does a Benteke fit into our side?

Yes I do, he has handed in a request, he's obviously been talking to people about a move. He will kick up a stink and move on, I'm not saying someone won't pay that for him, I'm saying I don't think he's worth that. Much like Andy Carroll in that respect. Villa don't want him hanging around being a pain in the arse, Lerner will take 12-15 for him and I can't see Spurs or Everton offering 25, so where else is he going to go? Chelsea, City, Arsenal? So he's left with the likes of Everton/Spurs.

I meant Everton.

Remy and Bent wanted by Pardew.

Don't particularly think either signing will improve the first XI for us. Remy has already been proven to be a money grabbing ****, and currently has that case against him for rape.

And Bent would be an ok off the bench option, but we've seen this season he was ineffective for Villa, so again no thanks.

Villa will be lucky to get £5m and Defoe out of Spurs. Levy won't be paying them anywhere near £20m, let alone £25m.

Ross, Bent was "ineffective" because he was on the bench? no brainer.

He's a proven goalscorer.

When he plays, invariably he's scored 1 in 2 ish.

I would rate Darren Bent more likely to score tied to the bench and holding a bag of concrete than Shola Ameobi playing 90 mins.

Gimp - I guarantee he won't be allowed to leave for such a low fee.

From what I've read, Chelsea, City and Arsenal have shown an interest, as did Dortmund and Atletico - obviously the latter two have signed strikers in the past few days, but I will reckon he may go to Arsenal personally.

I think this argument about unhappy players kicking up a fuss whenever they don't get a move is overplayed. It's a WC year, if Benteke's at Villa on the 1st September he'll play the exact same way he did last season. There's no benefit to him not doing so - he'll miss out on the WC and it'll hardly help encourage clubs to go for him next season if he's seen as a sulker and sat on his arse for a year.

Spurs could afford £20m+ as could Everton if/when they sell Baines & Fellaini and I wouldn't rule out Chelsea coming in for him either.

We've seen Villa leave Bent on the bench for a season so I don't think they'll be concerned about doing the same to Benteke (if it came to that) on much lower wages. Worst case scenario, they could sell him for £12m next season.

I'd be stunned if Villa let him go for less than £20m - it makes no sense for Villa to do so and the ball's firmly in their court right now.

I'm not going to play the whole stats game but it's quite obvious when you watch both players which is clearly the better, and younger, of the two.

Ah good reasoning, and perhaps the reason that the Belgium national manager has benched Lukaku for the last 3 WC qualifiers, whilst Benteke leads the line.

Lukaku scored 2 less last season than Benteke, for a side who performed considerably better.

He has 3 international goals in 21 caps, compared to Benteke's 6 in 14.

He is 20, Benteke is so so much older at 22.

All makes sense to me

No, it's because I can't be arsed to argue with a Villa fan that loves his player (nothing wrong with that) but it's quite clear which has more ability and which I, and many others, would have at their club.

I geniunely would find it very difficult to share your view, even if I didn't support Villa. Lukaku is a very good prospect, and I would love to see him at the Villa if Benteke goes, but I don't see in any way, shape or form that he has "more ability", and your inability to justify this, makes it impossible to agree.

Sigh.

I'm not going to spend my time trying to prove something to someone that can't be arsed to look past just one season and when I even at the start said it was arguable that he was better.

The point is; Chelsea would be ****ing mental to swap Lukaku for Benteke.

So would Villa - perhaps £10m + Benteke's understudy in exchange for the Big Man

Lots of players have awesome goal scoring records abroad and don't cut it in the prem. Also many come in and do really well first season but don't continue that. I don't think either player has done enough in the prem to warrant such high transfer prices or interest from the top teams. If they do the same next season then it's a different story.
