Additionally, Everton have, in the main, retained their best players over the past couple of seasons - Jagielka, Fellaini, Baines - should a couple of these depart, it will be interesting to see how they evolve.

That's true, your lot did lose Downing, Young, Barry and Milner, which were all pretty serious first team picks and have swapped them for kids. That move could have been tragic, Middlesbrough did the same thing and it cost them their place in the Premier League.

I don't hate Villa, quite the contrary, I do like them (just not the shirt colours - same with West Ham and Burnley) and hope they do well.
I hope Lambert turns them around next season.

I was ultimately just trying to get a rise earlier, but it's not a tough choice at the moment for a player to choose Everton over Aston Villa. Next season will be interesting, especially if Martinez uses the same defensive tactics as a lot of last season (like only playing one actual, decent defender) and now Lambert's first season is out of the way.

Yes, he'll be aiming higher than 6th. Do you think he joined a club like Everton, with the players we have, and the league finishes we've had, and thought "I know, I'll just be happy to keep them in the top half"? Are you really that deluded?

Are you deluded enough to think a manager who's scraped around in the relegation area for the past few seasons, who's replacing a man who literally shaped the club and overachieved year on year, who's looking likely to lose his best players to a bigger club and has signed Wigan's striker from last season is going to push on from where Moyes left them?

Let's reconvene in May 2014 and leave it at that :D

I didn't say he actually would push on. I said he would be trying to push on. Two very different things, as you would have seen if you weren't so busy trying to prove your non-existant point.

I fully agree :)

Suarez flattered by Arsenal interest

Luis Suarez has told Sport 890, a radio station in Uruguay that he is flattered by interest from Arsenal:
It's good to know that I am still valued by teams like Arsenal. Friends call me up to ask if I am moving to Chelsea, to which I laugh.
Don’t believe everything you read or hear! I am sometimes off the grid. I don’t even know where my phone is sometimes.
There have been no offers yet, but Liverpool know exactly what is going on and what I want.
– Luis Suarez, speaking to Sport 890

Yeah I'm sure we signed him about a month ago, that's why all the talk on him has gone quiet...

Wouldn't be surprised if that was a deadline deal.

I heard we were trialling a Colombian kid...

Just gets better and better

Oh good, another youngster to spend 5 years on loan playing in the second tier of Spanish football and then letting him go on a free. Keep the faith!

Oh good, another non-story. Have we signed higuain yet?

You trolling the Arsenal fans??:p. Dont know, i think hes been lost in the Bermuda triangle or something:p. As far as i have heard/read, Real have come out and said that there has been no offer from us to them for Higuain. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen.

Of course its Wengers way isnt it??...then we will have to sit and listen to him next season go on about what great spirit we have etc when losing to teams that we should be beating:p

I read something rather worrying last night along the lines of Wenger/Arsenal may not sign any decent players this season because there is the belief that the squad we have at the moment...is strong enough to challenge for trophies. Dont know whether to laugh or cry at that if true.

Being an Arsenal fan is a true test of patience i feel now:o

How could he feel it's strong enough to challenge for trophies when we barely scraped 4th and have got rid of loads of players (admittedly rubbish ones). Sounds like BS to me.

It will come down to not enough value in the market blah blah blah then last minute signing of some mid tier players.

I was quite excited a couple of weeks ago. That excitement has evaporated now :p Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see but I wouldn't be surprised if we leave things till towards the end of the transfer window again in the vain hope of grabbing some bargains

Perhaps our end of season run has convinced him that we're awesome, in fact beyond awesome. I think he's seemed to have forgotten how crap we were in the first half of the season.

Your last sentence is precisely what I am expecting be said. It has every other summer for the past few years.

Sod it, we'll still finish above Spurs ;)

Suarez is probably putting off other teams coming for him party due to his antics and making a mess of the whole situation by using the media to play crying wolf, hand in a request or shut it
