HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST - Coil Whine normal?

Hi,

I ordered one of these cards which had coil whine.

I now have another one which does the exact same thing, is this normal? Or just unlucky?

Wondering whether I should return the 2nd one. :p

The noise is only slightly noticable idle, a little bit more during games and really loud when games have high FPS (over 300).
 
I think im having a similar problem with mine but it only seems to do it on certain programs. seems to do it at the screen just after the heaven benchmark results.
 
I seem to have it on the first benchmark in 3d Mark 11

..and only that benchmark, its gone by the 2nd one. (I think its the GPU anyway, however im currently have PSU issues soooo, I should probably check)

but I have this exact model and have it locked at 34% fan speed for just general desktop idling and even when it ramps up to 60% during intensive games, never noticed any whine, just that benchmark with the MSI subs!
 
I used to have a couple of these cards and only ever noticed coil whine when frame rates went sky high. I tended to keep things locked to 60fps on RadeonPro (one of the many things I tried to get a reliable Crossfire setup) so this only tended to happen during uncapped menus and intro videos.

Is that the benchmark with the spaceships and astroids? if so thats the same for me.

I tend to cap my my FPS at 60 using afterburner, as no point me rendering extra frames my monitor can't display anyway.
 
Thanks for all the replies, I don't think I'll bother sending it back. I shall have a go at capping the FPS at around 200 I think, because it's not too noticeable then.
 
As I have mentioned before on here the 3 HIS 7970s I sent back all had really loud buzzing/whine and it was enough to put me off that brand altogether.

ah no, this one I mean


Only place I get coil whine and I checked last night it is my GPU not the PSU, its annoying enough to return it but since its the only place I encounter it I've not bothered, weird!
