iPad or Xperia Z Tablet?

Cheers for the responses and erm bickering but as said yesterday. Got the ipad, seems good at least good enough and easy enough for my mum to navigate which is what counted.

Turns out one of the first things she wanted was BBC Iplayer so good thing we went with the Apple.

What's wrong with his comment?

What's wrong is that he's stating it as a fact, when it's just an opinion.

I would have definitely recommended an iPad in this instance but to call the iPad the only choice for a premium tablet is misguided.

I have a Nexus 10 and I bought it because I wanted a powerful tablet for gaming and watching movies because I'm staying in hotels on a regular basis with my work commitments. With a lot of these places not having decent data connections to tether and/or rip-off WiFi prices, Android really was a great option because I can mount my 64Gb flash drive without rooting. This means I don't have to worry about 5Gb Blu-Ray rips taking up precious internal space and the Nexus 10 is powerful enough to decode such big files.

The Nexus 10 certainly has areas where it falls short of the iPad; the screen isn't vibrant enough despite having a higher resolution than the iPad and whilst the perceived build quality is better than Samsung's other tablets, it still isn't iPad levels.

I've just ordered a 10 inch galaxy tab2 for my nan, seems the best all rounder hardware vs price wise, and doesn't have the constraints associated with apples Os.

I am an android man but went for the new ipad, have tried a few Android based tabs but the I4 is better imo specially as there are so many tablet apps for it.

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago, Personally I love N10 (and have one) but also have an iPad 2, got an iPad mini for the parents fairly simple to use and Facetime is well above Hangouts/Skype in terms of ease of use (which is one of the main things they needed it for).

Once again it comes down to the user but knowing my parents I know an iPad is something they will be much comfortable with and TBH they have had it for a week now and really happy with it.

What are these amazing apps that are only available to apple users?. They're often talked about, but never seem to be listed.

iPad it's so much more closed, she wont be able to mess anything up which can't be easily rectified.

If you want to go down that route then set up a restricted launcher on Android, being able to stop a child/non techie adult from being able to screw around with anything is one area that Android beats iOS hands down.

For me it's Sky Go and games, although I don't play the latter really anymore. If Sky Go is made available for the Tablet Z then I'll just keep my iPad for testing purposes only.

I have to say I've never been wanting for a quality tablet app for the Z tablet or even my Note phone, yes theres a lot of crud apps to wade through sometimes before you find the good app(s) but so far I've never felt a lack of an appropriate app for my needs even if it does sometimes take a bit more time to find compared to the ipad.

To discount the Z tablet as being in the same league as the ipad is ignorant at best (and I'm not hating on the ipad) where each one shines might differ slightly and same for the segments of the market they appeal to.
