That this is anfield article but seems they're using quotes from 'id love to join arsenal' interview, with 'one phone call could change everything,'

I don't mind him being a nob for us, not the other way :p

If you already haven't, try to find the transcript of the interview (I can't find the link). He says nothing of much interest in the interview he gave. He was asked if he was aware of the Arsenal bid and also whether it was a surprise given what has gone on over here (or words to that effect) - to which he said he was aware and that it's good to be valued for what he does on the pitch.

10 days into the transfer window and supporters are already whining about a lack of transfers?

Transfer window doesn't mean crap, Arsenals first preseason game is Sunday. We can, well we could already have signed up 5 players who could all have been training with the team, getting comfortable with the area, where they live, finding schools, learning the language hanging out with players outside of training and simply getting fit for the season to come. Or you can do the usual for Arsenal which is buy someone useless early on then panic buy the wrong players with 38 minutes left of the window to go who then end up having little preseason, not gelling with the team and in general being no where near their peak.

Signing as early as possible both improves the chances of a player being at their best all season, having a good season, being happy in the country and giving the rest of the squad a preseason boost in confidence.

So yeah, not signing players early and getting the team sorted before preseason is a huge disadvantage. Hell what happens if you practice system A all preseason, then you buy a "game changing" player that is so good you'll alter your system to fit them in... surely you can see that having a first team player in early and sorted to spend preseason getting used to a new player is easily the best way to do business.

Very rarely do transfers get sorted out quickly enough to begin preseason with the new clubs.

Liverpool have done well for the most part, but havent really signed any 'big' players that would take time at the negotiating table.

Sky reporting that Thiago will begin pre season with Barca.

Well no ****, just because he is considering leaving doesn't mean he is going to sit on his backside does it. Such lazy journalism at times.

I cant wait to go on holiday and come back in time for the charity shield, hopefully there will be done deals then!

Anyone heard anything about Scott Sinclair to newcastle or is it just twitter pap

Some big money got placed on him moving to Newcastle and his odds were slashed.

It won't happen, his wage demands are too high. It's clear he's more about the money than the football...

Regarding Suarez, I personally have run out of patience with him. I would like to see him leave and us use the money to strengthen with a couple of players with the money. The whole farce is becoming tiresome and if he doesnt go I can foresee him being a quite divisive figure in the club and do more harm than good, get shot of him I say and buy a couple of 20-25m players with the cash.

Fully agree

His Real Madrid touting has backfired on him massively, "a phone call can change all that" Awww waiting for Mr Perez to ring you Luis :D

All those 20-25m players who clearly want to come play for us...

Don't get me wrong, I want to see the back of Suarez, but if there is a player available for that money who is worth it, other clubs will be in for him, and otherwise we'll just be spaffing 25m in another Carroll scenario.

Well doesnt necessarily have to be players of that price, my point was that I would rather us sell him and use the money to buy a few players......like Keisuke Honda maybe :D

Mhktaryan (whatever) wanted to sign for us by all accounts, we just couldn't get past the 3rd party ownership issues.

We won't see another Carroll situation, we have a transfer commitee in place with a list of pre-determined targets and a cileing limit of how much we will pay on each one.

Exactly, players in their 40s need to be planning for their retirement and realistically no London club is going to match the wages he'll be getting from Chelsea. He's stated that his family is settled and kids in school so presumably no need to move house etc is another plus point for Chelsea.

Just seems to make sense all round to me, Chelsea get a decent keeper as backup while allowing Courtois to continue his development on loan.

My thoughts as well really.

A good deal for both parties this one :)

There was no further news on possible moves for Everton left-back Leighton Baines and Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, but Moyes did say: "Don't be kidded by the lack of activity.

"Take it from me, we are working hard behind the scenes to try and improve the squad. The big thing is that Manchester United will always be in for the best players in the world.

All accounts apart from the one which mattered, which was where he ended up. Anyway, even he'd have been a bit of a gamble.

The only players we'll get at that price tag are ones which are gambles. If there's anyone who's available at that price (for instance Thiago...) who is likely to be a success, we will probably not get them as CL clubs will come in for them instead.
