Forgive a potentially silly question, but how far can you usually go when this comes on/how much is left?

Just wondering if there is a standard figure across manufacturers or it's hit an miss?

You should be able to work it out by filling up when the light comes on and knowing the total capacity if your fuel tank and how many mpg you get.

I would guess it is quite a bit more than you would expect.

Mine has 13 litres left when the light comes on and the range is normally at around 40-50 miles.

Thats what i did, but turns out my car has a 42.5 litre tank and not a 45 litre like the interetz told me, hence running out of fuel :(

managed to get about 20 miles out of my kia rio diesel after the light came on before stopping at the station. driving back on motorway and thought "I wonder if I an get back to the city on fumes" ... and I did :D although by that time the fuel needle was below empty so was rather glad to see the petrol station xD ....seeing as it's a diesel :p

Mine comes on when there's 50 miles left on the range and if I fill up when there's 20-30 miles left (at about 25-26mpg) then I can squeeze about 50 litres in

Just wanted some reassurance, the dash said I could do another 40-50 miles, but then it changed to simply '---m'

Gonna fill up at lunch, I daren't risk it XD

A lot of cars stop displaying when the fuel gets low.

Mine stops at 30 miles left and changes to -- and the fuel light comes on. I've gone almost 30 miles after the light has come on too, and didn't run out, so it seems pretty accurate.

My 182 is the same. Although I did 32 miles on the fuel light and still only managed to brim the tank to 46 litres.

'cento light comes on with about 50 miles range left on average, so about 4-5 litres. Bentley light comes on when there's still maybe 10 litres left, when that comes on you'd best hope that the petrol station is close. Ideally within visual range. That being said, fuel consumption has really improved in the last few months - should be in double figures around town now :D
