Commutting 150 miles a day up and down the motorways from Cheshire to Blackpool contracting and it was killing me in the 335i

So had a brand new lease Honda Civic 1.6D EX (top spec) for a week and I must say, very impressive. All the leather, toys to play with, extremely comfortable, DAB radio, hard drives, etc etc.

Total Average MPG door to door for the week, 30 miles of build up roads and 120 miles motorway at 80mph cruise control is 65MPG :)

Compared to the 29mpg I was getting with the 335 :)

Yes it is a diesel, but for a 1.6 it is extremely impressive, cruises happily at 2krpm @ 80mph, quite and comfortable, plus it is the 2nd fastest car on the road being a lease car :) Obviously not got the get up and go of the 335i, but hey, it is a mile muncher.

Just need to sell the 335i now, but getting no takers.

65MPG is fairly impressive, certainly head and shoulders above my 44 average on the 2.2. Though my cruise control only works at 95mph, which might explain it. ;)

How much is the lease (if you don't mind saying), and what duration?

£362 per month for 25,000 miles per year, private, no maintenance over 3 years.

That is for a brand new 1.6D EX in metallic black top of the range.

Quite good, obviously if you are a business you can get it cheaper with tax / expenses offsets.

Yesterday, door to door was 70mpg :)

I imagine if you drove the 335i the same as you drive the civic you'd get better than 29mpg, £362 a month is a lot of money to pay out for something you don't, and never will, own.

I try to CC @ 80, but the M6 does make it difficult during rush hours. I beat if I had an empty road and set the CC to 80 i would easily break 70mpg for weekly average.

CC@ 85 drops it by a few mpg

I was, with aircon off same trip same speeds. 29.1mpg over a typical week :(

£362 is cheap when I will put 75,000 miles in 3 years on a new car. I certainly won't want it afterwards and I regard it as a tool of the trade and not an investment. As you pile up mileage, lease diesel's become very attractive.

Seems like a decent engine and Honda have been marketing the hell out of it since it was released. Does it have much go for what it is?

What's the 335 like btw? Been flirting with the idea of one since I took my mum's E92 cab out a few weeks back. The loud pedal somehow got stuck to the carpet.

£362 sounds OK assuming there was no upfront payment, otherwise it's a touch on the expensive side for a run-of-the-mill Jap hatch!

The weekly average MPG is nice though, beats mine! But then mine involves a fair bit of through-town which obviously lowers my average. Typical journey to work is north of 60MPG, and a typical run to somewhere like the Trafford center is north of 70MPG.

It is head and shoulders above the 1.6D fiesta 2012 I have given to the missus. The extra HP it has being a new engine gives it more grunt, and as long as you are not looking for rocket power, it will happily keep to motorway safe speeds and beyond. I am not naturally a slow driver and can easily keep good progress on the motorways. Oh and zero ££ road tax is nice to ;)

As for the 335i, what can I say, the BEST car I have ever owned and I have had many. I have had mine fitted with a JB3 and cones to give it around 400bhp and with 19inch boots, it is a joy to drive. Blisteringly fast, quick off the mark and wow, jaw dropping performance at a fraction of the price. Easily keeps with M3's, but they will obviously out do it on a track. Ride is stiff and with run flats can needs some getting used to, but some people fit normal boots to them. If you are going to get one, get one fully specc'd out, you will like the toys.

I hate to part with it, but it sits on the drive currently unused and so it is up for sale. :( So much want to garage it for later on in life, but not practicle to do so.

Check the trader for a silver 335i in Sandbach Cheshire if you want or trust me.

They are a great car, but thirsty.

I'm thinking that some of the reasons for the lack of interest will be:

1) Those wheels (and center caps), they make the car look tatty and uncared for.
2) It's not even clean (inside and out), again doesn't scream "careful owner"
3) Your pictures mostly cut off detail/parts of the car, it's not hard to get pictures that don't randomly cut off the front end or the back end.
4) It's an SE (yes, I know they have the same suspension, but I'll bet most would-be owners of a cheaper 335i will be lusting for M Sport innit bruv).

25,000 miles/yr = 2083.33.. miles/month.
Fuel cost = 135.9/L Super Petrol in 335i; 134.9 Diesel in Civic
Fuel cost 2083.33.. miles @ 29mpg = £443.24
Fuel cost 2083.33.. miles @ 65mpg = £196.30

Fuel difference = £246.94 leaving £115.06/month for repairs, which seems like more than enough.
(Assuming both cars are going to be worth a pittance a few years down the line with roughly equivalent selling prices)

I know where my money would rather go :p

Enjoy your diesel Civic ;)

Thanks, will look into editing the advert asap.

oh get a grip, there are many other factors why i am changing car that you are oblivious to in your little perfect world.

Here are a few

£246 saving in fuel costs per month (your calcs) That alone is nearly 70% of the lease.
Road Tax £0 compared to £490
Insurance, trust me there is a big difference
Ongoing maintenance, new vs 7 year old aging high mileage performace car
Resale costs vs mileage
Personal circumstances
Money I get back from selling the 335i, hopefully between 9 and 10k

The 335i was great when I had a company fuel car - Personal Circumstances.

Sometime I wish people would step away from the keyboard and realise they are not the centre of the world

I have sold a lot of cars;

Thoughts re your 335i advert, the wheels really, really let the car down. I would have thought that you would receive loads more interest with some stock (silver) BMW alloys on it. I like this kind of car but if viewing your car i would see the wheels as a compromise which i would be having to change pretty much as soon as i got it home, which is a pain.

Plus some better photos, the photos cut the car off and look really rushed. This isnt a huge deal but some taken with a less grainy camera and with the car centre shot would make that advert a lot more appealing.

Totally agree re the wheels. My car has them and I despise them. They look alright when the tyres are properly blacked up, but in between washes they make the tyres look brown and the car look kev'd. :(

I'm not sure if the mentality is universal on this one either, but being in the market for a BMW at the moment I would run a mile from one that has had any kind of cosmetic changes done with non OEM parts.

Not a criticism of your car btw OP, just an observation. :)

Thanks guys, all valid points.

Unfortunately not a lot I can do about it being a SE version and not MSport or the wheels.

This weekend I will give it a darn good clean and polish, blacken the tyres and get some proper piccies taken of it. Will probably drop the price to £9999 as well.

Cheers
