Plenty of transfers happen early, plenty don't. When you know who you're after and then you quibble over 1-2mil particularly on a player who is worth the asking price when you can make sure the player has the whole preseason with you its ridiculous.

Likewise when a player is either causing trouble and forcing his way out, or simply just incredibly likely to leave they often DO sit out preseason training with the current club as that current club has no reason to either waste time and resources training him, or for the team to play with that player as they are better training with whoever will play in his position when he's gone.

Dempsey/Bendtner were two players who were definitely off and their clubs didn't involve those players in their preseason training, meaning both started the season without a preseason training under their belt and it effected both, and its happened to dozens of other players, so no its not a given that a player will train with their existing team if a move is on the horizon.
 
today's telegraph says that spurs are willing to meet villa's £25m valuation on benteke.

i just can't see levy spending this amount on him. i can see the + points with benteke but i just can't stop thinking it could be another darren bent.

i'd like to see £15m + parker + livermore. parker would be a good asset to villa, bringing leadership and experience.

i'm sure any fee will be performance related but i just have a bit of a bad feeling about benteke in a spurs shirt.
 
Lambert seems to like youth so not sure he'd want Parker, he also probably likes Premiership youth so Livermore is out of the question ;)

What, a proven goalscorer that has systematically proven himself time and again? To have finished top Englishman in the goal charts several times?

that's my point. bent just didn't work for us. a lot of this was down to mismanagement i will say but some players just don't suit some teams. i just feel it could be another bent scenario all over again. bent has gone the same way at villa too. there must be a reason for this.
 
The only way Spurs will spend £20m+ on anyone is if Levy has absolutely nothing to do with the negotiations. Maybe he really is taking a back seat with the signing of Baldini (heard he has some personal issues), but I'll have to see some proof before I'll believe it.

Have to say i agree with you with Liverpool saying he isnt for sale. Unless you get a £40mill+ offer for him, which i would take to get him off the books and get some other players in who wont cause you any grief on or off the pitch.
