Hey guys,

Intention is to chill out, read books and do pretty much nothing.

Would like to go for 5 nights and stay at a 4/5* hotel.

Budget of around £800 (including flights)

Mates have asked me to go Ibiza but that's just not for me!

Any recommendations? Finding it really hard to find rooms just for 1 person - seems it's the same price as for 2 but double as you're not splitting it :/

Thanks!

Why isn't Ibiza for you, it will have some lovely areas if you look around.

You don't have to go get smashed during the day, you could always go and chill a bit yourself then meet up with them later on. People can make a good holiday if they are great mates.

Why a 5 star hotel?

These are the things a 5 star hotel offers over a 4 star hotel:

Reception opened 24 hours, multilingual staff
Doorman-service or valet parking
Concierge, page boy
Spacious reception hall with several seats and beverage service
Personalized greeting for each guest with fresh flowers or a present in the room
Minibar and food and beverage offer via room service during 24 hours
Personal care products in flacons
Safe in the room
Ironing service (return within 1 hour), shoe polish service
Turndown service in the evening

The star rating is a service rating not neccesarily a quality rating. Sure, it's can often be proportional because a crappy travelodge won't have valet parking but.. you get the idea.

There are many 3 star hotels that are better than 4 star hotels and vice versa.

If you plan to just chill out then why not just stay at home and save the money?

Not going to be a popular option I bet but going somewhere else to just sit on my arse is just madness.

I stay in some nice hotels with work and always get offered the turn down service. I normally politely decline but ask for the chocolates. What is this? I understand they get your bed ready for you. What's the point? Never been at home and wished I had someone to do this for me.

Beach / Swimming pool / better weather / change of scenery

I'll screengrab the Ibiza invite if you want Andy :p

No real preference for 5* (hence the 4/5* but thanks for the list)

I'd personally ignore the star rating alltogether. It'll soon become obvious whether its the sort of place you want to stay just by looking at rooms and user opinion etc. I never really pay attention to star rating when booking hotels.

Drakes Hotel in Brighton is good. £800 will get you about 5 nights in one of the bigger sea view rooms although with not a lot of change left.

Personally though, go to Rome or Prague or something, pick a city you fancy and then walk around and get lost in it for a week. Read a book on a street corner cafe. Walk through some meat and veg market. Perhaps watch a movie dubbed in a foreign language just for kicks.

Did you really just spec somebody who wants to spend £800 on a holiday 5 nights in BRIGHTON!?

If he just wants to sit in a hotel and do nothing then does it really matter where he sits?

The original post didn't specify anything else except he wants to do nothing. Hell, if I were to do that I do it at home for free.

And why did you leave out the other larger part of my post of what I would do and quote the smaller part only?

I stayed in Brighton for the weekend a few weeks ago. It was plesant to walk along the sea front, my son enjoyed the sea life centre (disappointing for everyone else) and it was a nice place to get fish and chips. Venture outside the lanes and anywhere near the town centre itself and it was an absolute hole full of take aways (most were middle eastern which was unusual).

£800 for a visit to Brighton? I can think of far nicer places :)

I suspect he doesnt want to sit in the hotel room for 5 days straight. He's probably after a beach/pool/type thing.

Why would I quote stuff thats not relevant to the point I wanted to make?
