Was in london the other day and soon as i got out the car was immediatly struck by the smell of fumes etc from cars. Was just wondering if this is something you get used to? i was also thinking about how bad it might be to do RIGOROUS exercise where you breathe very deeply?

might be a non issue but was just interested

After about a week your nose is blocked by the crud and you can't smell anything :P

In all seriousness tho I've lived in London on and off over the years and after a week tops I stop noticing the smell. If you spend much time travelling around the city tho I don't reccomend white shirts :P

Grew up in very green Hertfordshire and have now lived in London for 2 years. I can't say I've noticed a constant smell (I work in Piccadilly) but naturally when traffic is built up and at a standstill it can be a little close.

Strange question.

It's like city slickers asking country bumpkins if they get used to the smell of all the animal manure around. Or southerners asking northerners if they get used to the smell of the poverty ;)

Of course you do, you acclimatise to your situation.

Much prefer the smell out in the country side, smell of a field of wheat or whatever is great compared to London smell. I very rarely go into central london though these days and definitely smells not so bad around here. Drove through hanger lane roundabout the other day and jesus does it stick.

Can't beat the smell of cow **** in the morning :D

Considering it's size and traffic London doesn't really smell of pollution compared to most large European cities.

Yes I live in a village, probably didn't help that it was so hot that day but it was noticeable enough to me immediately

I can see why the congestion zone was introduced.

Agreed. I love getting back out into the countryside (my roots) and smelling the cow manure on the wind, smells fresh and pure.
