RC Helicopters

Just spent £100 on a Blade mQX, ok its not a helicopter its a quadcopter but its the first RC flything I have owned and its such great fun even with the controller you get with the RTF model.

Hi,

Hopefully right thread...

Looking to getting a friend a RC plane for his birthday. Any recommendations, as I have no idea where to start. No actual budget but don't want to waste money,

Thanks,

ummm he just likes tinkering with things like this....

so built himself a remote controlled car via a raspberry pi and iphone app ( which he did himself)

And has a couple of the smaller i guess £100 ish helicopters.

After messing with several ipad controlled 4chans and dusting off ageing belt cp, I just dropped a heap of cash on a walkera V120D02S V2 and devo 10 tx, looks a awesome machine.... Hope to get it toms :-)

Maybe finally inverted flight will be mine :-), which is way to risky on the belt as one slip and its a write off

You can get them cheap from HK, but it's a 100 quid tx, so not so bad

I have a fully modded Esky Lama v3 with all the Xtreme (motors/batteries/blades) upgrades along a Walkera single blade.

Can't make my mind up whether to stick them on the bay or fix them back up.

No, the belt cp trashes itself with the slightest impact, so want to try on something smaller and tougher..... Can fly inverted on sim fine though

Ok, didn't get what you meant when you said one slip and its a write off. Not sure I'd class a torque tube driven tail tougher than a belt drive though.

For the money, I'd have gone for a 130x. Great model to learn on and will do 3d. That one you linked to seems to run on 1s battery's?

Also, do you need 10 channels? You can get a dx7s or second hand dx8 for the same money.

Was wondering this myself :| I've stripped more TT gears with heavy landings than I can count but my belt drive Trex 450 has survived intact for years!

The Blade mCPX was the machine I popped my inverted cherry on. I wouldn't recommend it though. That thing is a pain to turn over due a severe lack of power.

The newer mCPX BL is much better (I flew a club member's last weekend), but the 130X is better still. I give mine a right hammering, and other than stripping tail gears twice, I've only broken the skids in the almost 12 months I've had it.

The Walkera is more 130X like, but a 1 cell power system rather than 2 cells. I'm sure it will fly pretty well. Walkera were the first out with a flybarless sub-micro collevtive pitch helicopter by a long way, so they've had the time to get it right. Parts are quite difficult to source over here, but plentiful in the far east.

Enjoy it. There's nothing finer than pulling off for real something you've only tried on the simulator.

I have a dx6i with the beltcp, but that's not compatible with the walkera afaik... The belt will prolly go on the bay :-(

I think the walkera is 1s but has out runner brushless and plenty of power.... Should find out toms *gulp*

If I were you I'd have kept the dx6 and bought a 130x. Cheaper in the long run and I'm learning loads on mine. Going to take it out this weekend after installing its new lynx motor.

Hum, maybe, reading around there is not much between them.... Can't wait till tomorrow though. I can't get my head around how simple head is... No more flybars !!
