Do PAYG Data sims exist?

Hi all,

Just wondering if any UK carrier does a PAYG data sim?

I'm pretty sure they don't, but thought I'd ask

AFAIK, PAYG sims are only for TXT and Talk. The data part requires a monthly top up (ie, if I put £10 on the sim to buy 1GB data, I need to put another £10 on the following month, even if I don't use it all up)

The reason for this is that I have a new tablet coming and would like to stick a PAYG sim in with 1GB data on. I might never use it, but it's there is case I ever need it one day.

If not, I'll simply stick to mobile tethering but fancy another provider for data services if possible

Thanks!!

If it's purely for tablet, and you may not use it that often, would this do?: http://ovivomobile.com/offer/

Ovivo for data, 750mb a month for free, with only the £15 charge for delivering the SIM to you, but it gets added back to your account and is used in case you go over the limits. It uses the Vodafone network so should be fine coverage wise depending on your area.

That looks really good actually

what happens after I use all the 750mb? buy another sim or something else?

To be honest, the £5 a month for 1.5GB looks good if I use it more than I think

Then it starts eating into your £15 credit at a rate of 16p per MB, which will then become like a PAYG SIM until the next month. You can always add more credit whenever you want.

So think of it as a PAYG SIM, but with them awarding you free 750mb per month :p.

EDIT: Another note is O2 and Vodafone will share each other's network, no idea when it will happen but it should boost network coverage by a good fair bit to compete against EE/Orange/T-mobile.

Never heard of Ovio before, some cracking deals on the face of it. Might get one for mother dear, she is not a prolific mobile user and the Freedom package would save me topping up her phone for her :p What's the catch?

Only catch is everytime you open the browser, they will show you an advertisement (this is only if you use their network, wifi avoids this), but after that it's pretty much fine. They need to do this to fund their free services after all :p: http://ovivomobile.com/about-us/

What if you never use data? Sorry for all the questions, I'll have a proper read when I get home

If you never open the browser then you will never see any ads :p.

And yes, it's 750mb per month free, which makes it very good for those who wants to use the internet on their tablet every now and then.

Seems like a good deal for tablet/very light phone users, will pick one up. If I'd known about this company before I wouldn't have got a SIM slot-less Nexus 7 :p
