Do people still bother with screen protectors?

I do.

Love how I can scratch it up like hell and in 5 minutes I like I have a new phone. And at 10p per protector it's a bargain.

People go on about how it doesn't feel right. Personally I feel like they're just being picky. Also, as I've never actually touched my screen (I apply straight away when I get the product) it feels 'normal'.

never had one on my htc desire.. no scratches, had it 2 years
never had one on my SGN.. many scratches and cracks, had it one year
the guy i bought the moto razr maxx hd had one on, its perfectly on but im undecided as to wheather to remove it

Nope it appears the glass on the S4 is very strong and wont scratch against coins and keys etc. The ones you put on make the phone feel bad and make the screen appear dull and washed out. And most if not all give an orange peel effect after all its cheap plastic your putting on your screen.

Got a nice leather flip case on mine, makes the phone seem big but the biggest one I fear is scratching the back or corners of the phone.

May go naked and see how it fairs

If you do want to try a screen protector, see mine linked above, no orange peel and very very clear. Only £2 for 5.

Like I said if it did't feel or look good, I wouldn't have one on my S4.

I did use one on my S but the feel and quickly gathering/showing smudge/grease/fingerprints made me take if of in the end but apart from that, it had no impact on quality, colours, viewing angles etc. or the touch sensitivity and this was just with a htc screen protector.

Pointless all these tests you see on youtube where people take knives, coins etc. to the screen as metal objects do not scratch the glass and haven't since the nexus one/desire etc. but come to grid/sand then the glass is screwed regardless of it being gorilla glass 1, 2, 3 or 4 (they are all more or less the same for toughness, only difference is the thickness)

I got a light but long hairline scratch on my S3 by wiping my phone on my clothing - gorilla glass is good, but not invincible as you said. Grit is it's worst enemy.

What about micro scratches.. (the small circles you can see at an angle, probably due to polishing/buffing)... are smartphones screens ie corning glass resist to that as well?

Yeah I try to avoid using my clothes to wipe the screen and camera lens, only time is when it is really bad and I don't have a proper cloth! I just use some window cloth to wipe the phone down 1-2 times a day :o

Unfortunately with this heat and humidity, I'm having to wipe the screen non stop :o :p

With my next phone, I'll probably buy a better screen protector or maybe try out the liquid crystallisation stuff (more of an oleophobic coating in order to reduce fingerprints etc.) or armoured liquid thing.

If you use a proper wipe/cloth that is clean you shouldn't have that problem.

Jelly Case + pouch + screen protector - I take no chances :D

I just wish that I could get the screen protectors on without having the tiniest of bubble appear on the screen, regardless of smoothing it on with a credit card.

I offered to put one on my wife's phone, as she had never done that before. She took a look at mine and suggested that she would prefer to try. Needless to say that hers is perfect.!
