AMD FX9590 (5ghz) Review [KITGURU]

Oh dear

What would you guys rather have?

A 8350 with the remaining money purely spent on best available water cooling set up.

Or a 9590 ?

I'm assuming the best overclock of the 8350 with £500 of cooling can get near 5Ghz could match performance?

Be good to see what people can do with this chip! I wonder what the likes of 8 pack could achieve? :)

Yeah. In the review they've used what amounts to a beta BIOS, and they might have a bit of a dud chip. But if these don't overclock well beyond 5GHz with a decent cooler they'd be a total waste of money (well, it's a waste of money even so when an 8350 is so much cheaper). It'll be interesting to see other reviews when they're out.

Well this CPU has at least made my 3960X seem like even more of a bargain @ £500.

We can bet that in the future if AMD do deliver with Steamroller, it isn't going to be cheap.

The pricing on this thing is ridiculous..

The FX-9590 is just a factory clocked up Vishera for some PR, the FX-9650 will be far better, but I'm still sticking with my FX-8350, more than happy with it.

I want to see how it runs the AMD Radeon optimized next gen games from the new consoles (they all use AMD Radeon hardware btw) before I spend any more cash.

Oh apart from that juicy sounding Radeon 9970 DX11.2 GPU coming in Oct ofc. :D

I now have no faith in the FX range. My 6100 has been a great little workhorse and the new chips are not looking any better IMO. Intel all the way.

Junk! and a ridiculous price to boot.

Need much higher per core per clock performance, get your #### together AMD.

Unless they are going to be using witchcraft Intel will still run faster than AMD. Architecturally Intel are about 2-3 years ahead. Drip feeding us upgrades atm. I would love AMD to bring a decent part with Steamroller, after seeing the price of these chips, I think whatever AMD bring next will not be cheap. AMD's APU's are more interesting than the rest of their CPU's imho.

The upcoming HD 9970 looks like it could be awesome though.

Enough to get an i7 4770k! ;)

Right ^^^^ an FX-8350 with a good but inexpensive cooler like a CM Hyper 412S would do 4.7Ghz and still cost less than an i5 4670K alone.

That's where the FX has value, if your going to spend £100+ on cooling... for what,- 4.9 - 5.1Ghz? you had might as well get a 4770K as that will cost about the same, you get the performance and you don't need £100+ cooling for an 800Mhz overclock.
Again the £30 Hyper 412S will do the job just fine.

Probably doing an Nvidia, testing the water to see if 5Ghz is loud enough marketing to get people spending silly money on vastly over priced products.

Let us hope it does not work or we may yet get a GTX Titan Slayer, for £900!

Holy **** the price!

Lets be honest it makes the 3960x price look exceptable, and anything that can do that should hide its head in shame.

If they really wanted to make it look bad they could compare it to an overclocked i7 3930K. A cut down (where it doesn't matter) 3960x available for around £400.

Wonder if there is any overclocking headroom after 5gig.

Supply and demand - not many PD chips will be capable of these speeds so supply will be very tight.

Be surprised if they could give them away let alone sell them. Just seems a huge gimmick cpu for bragging rights of being a part time 5ghz chip.

I don't think there's any point in pushing Piledriver beyond 4.8GHz, given the power it takes and the minimal performance gain. 4.7-4.8GHz provides excellent gaming performance, and in the kind of tasks that Piledriver does badly in, it's still going to do badly compared to Intel at 5.5GHz, let alone 5GHz.

^^ The price is ludicrous tbh, it makes the Intel 4670K and 4770K look like absolute bargains in comparison. Even with the limited overclocking.

I never thought AMD would release something this grossly overpriced tbh, makes me think that we may not see any bang for buck chips with Steamroller.. Although I guess the price of these may drop like a sack of spuds when nobody buys them :p
