Here's the blurb:

AUTOGRAPHED COPY.

Don't miss this opportunity to win a copy of the explosive first novel from upcoming author, Marcus Boyce.

Blazing space opera mixed with a deep story, compelling characters and heart-breaking tragedy.

Over a thousand years ago, out on the distant edge of the galaxy, stood the Rim world of Parlav. Here lived an ordinary man and woman, who loved each other. A routine test flight of a new starship takes Maximus away from his wife - nothing unusual, for he works for the Vallax Shipyards. Designing and testing state of the art ships is what Max does. However, when testing the greatest ship Vallax has ever built a series of events occur that lead to a loss Max cannot bear. He will tear the galaxy asunder to be with his wife again.

If you like trashy* space opera, big space battles, fearsome enemies and a tragic love story then this book is for you. If you like wincing at bad grammar, incorrect use of the past participle and a wanton abuse of the semicolon then this book is also for you. Use it as an example of how not to write, educate children, use it as toilet pear...whatever.

The link is below. You will need a GoodReads account (free, no catches, no sales pitch, it's just a website where people share books they've read or want to read)

That's all folks.

* Well it isn't War and Peace or A Tale of Two Cities. It has lasers, in space! Also any grammar or spelling errors in this post are deliberate...

Nice cover art.

My brother is a freelance graphic designer. Comes in useful at times!

Is a naked Cheryl Cole in it? Please say yes. :)

* Not all versions contain this. :p

So all we need to do is sign up to a site for a 'chance' to win? nothing else?

Nothing. Once they fix the issue there's an Enter To Win button next to the book in the link I've provided. One name gets randomly selected. Boom. Like I said, no catch. :)

Excellent. I have a copy of this on Kindle (well, I think so - it's listed as Requiem for a Lost People in my list, but in the ebook itself it's referred to as Songs of Love and Loss both on the cover page and in the suggested order of reading...), would be nice to win a signed physical copy! :)

Idyllic. (Rear cover blurb).

Are all mistakes intentional?

Sorry for the confusion -- it just seems like a serious story but your post makes it sound like you don't care/intentionally made the writing sub-par.

It was called Songs of Love and Loss when released on the Kindle. However the name was changed whn it was published in paperback and then the Kindle version was updated. Alas, Kindle books don't auto update so you'd have the old cover (and old reading order list, obviously!) :)

Gilly, my hearts still beating fast from the thread vanishing! *shakes fist* :D

Now I wish Goodreads would sort out the issue with it pending. I know why it went from Live to Pending now but I'd wish they'd hurry up and sort out the issue.

Sorry about this, folks, it was Live the moment I clicked submitt on this thread and then Pending seconds later. I'm cursed today (I'm recovering from a concussion I suffered yesterday!)

No they're not and that one should not have slipped past the proof stage. I make fun of my writing as it isn't ever going to be used in English Literature studies.

Now I've got to go about sorting out for that error to be fixed on the next edition. Look on the bright side it makes the first edition unique. So if I do hit the big time owning a copy could mean having something very valuable. Or worthless. :D

Give yourself a pat on the back for spotting that. It has been missed by over a dozen people who had preview copies, and one of them is an English teacher!

I've corrected the Kindle version, that's easy. Getting the print version altered, not so easy. :(

Hopefully I can't look anymore foolish... :D You need a very thick skin exposing your work to the public domain!

Are you really J K Rowling and your book has only sold 500 copies in the last 6 Months because you wanted to see how well you could do without being known as J K Rowling, but then you found out it wasn't doing very well at all so you let the secret out and now the 'secret' book has become a huge success, so you can now pat yourself on the back, or something? ;)

Yep; that you do!

I've been surprised how many tiny things I've caught in printed form when reviewing "final" print runs of various things, though likely not quite as much as the editors when I inform them and they reveal how many levels of editing and proofing the work went through before being signed off.

Makes me think I ought to get into the proofing/editing game, in all honesty!

500 copies? I'd be happy at that. :) Plus, I think JK has a much better editor than I do. :D

I had an obvious error spotted moments before it went off to Amazon (in paperback) and that error wasn't spotted by anybody tasked with proof reading. So yeah, not easy. Also I can spot errors in other books, I'm a big reader, but obvious ones seemingly sail past me when reading any first drafts of my own work. :(

Well I'm 20,000 words into the next book in the series. Proof that when it's finished and I'll give you a free copy!
