AMD need to get their finger out and bring something out that will make
them very competitive again, head to head with Intel like the old days
at the high end of the market thought I very much so doubt this will
happen any time soon, if ever again.

Regardless of what those of us 'in the know' think about the price, this is good news in some respects because it shows that AMD are trying to push into that sector of the market. For years all the doom sayers have been banging on about AMD not trying to compete with Intel at the top end and how that's bad for enthusiasts etc, etc. Just being in that market sector again, even with an inferior product, will get themselves seen there. It's like they're doing some brand positioning or something. They must know that they can sell these chips at those prices, or they wouldn't release them, so I suspect they 'think' have better CPUs coming that are good enough to increase their reputation in this high end sector.

I think the 'doom sayers' would just like a competitive part to go along with the competitive price.

My 3570K 4700Mhz P8Z77-V Pro 2400mhz DDR3 setup that cost just a few quid over £400 says

Hello AMD.

This thing got 8,100 points in 3D Mark 11 Physics? My 3570k scores 9500 without Hyperthreading lol.

This is my 3930k with 3 physical cores turned off @5.0

3DMark 11

Intel Core i7-3930K Processor

Physics Score 9753

And this is my 3930k with all physical core turned on @5.0

I can not see the point of this AMD CPU if it gets beat by a 3 core intel CPU.

Rather the price than the CPU. At 4.7GHz it'd outperform or equal higher end Intel CPUs in the majority of games, so for £200 or so it'd be solid competition as a gaming CPU - especially if you don't want to play games like WoW.

(That said, I'd personally still just get an FX8320/8350 and overclock it to 4.5GHz or more)

Yes it is the price that is the killer.

PR stunt i guess.Tried running the same number of cores without HT mate? No games use HT anyways it would give a more accurate picture of how much you spank it core for core.

Just ran it again 1.368v 4800mhz 1.6v 2400mhz DDR3 Kingston 11-12-11-30 1T (from ocuk shop predator 2133 kit) and got 9686 physics. It will crash after 20 mins of gaming but still funny.

No hyperthreading

I can not quite beat it on 3 cores with hyperthreading off but it is pretty close lol.:D

They do, hence why an i3 can spank an FX-4 but a Pentium dual core can't. The reason hyper-threading on an i7 doesn't make a difference in the majority of games is because the majority of games can't use that many cores, logical or physical.

Well l see there in stock £700 even make's a x79 build look good, by the time you buy a mobo. If they had charged about £100 more for them to me that would have made more sense as they are just cherry picked FX8350's.

Roy says AMD not set the price...

Only 1 year warranty on this epic fail as well. It just doesn't make any sense at this price..
