Which should I go for and why?

The 7950 is 5% slower than a 670, except in tombraider of course.
7950 with 8 free games, overclock it, bbfb by a long shot, no brainer tbh.
If your talking about a hard to find stock non boost 7950@800MHz then furry muff, but, considering a 680 is about 5% slower than a 7970 GHz, and a clock for clock 50 is about 5%(mostly) slower than a 70....

No in General the 670 is faster out of the box and overclocked. In general of course, im just stating what "most" review sites say, and even with that the 670 i have is poor at overclocking 1189mhz yet is still 5% faster on average with a similar clocked 7950 @ 1080 or 1920x1200 res.
Now i am not saying a 7950 with 8 games is not the best deal, but the way 7950's are always recommended as faster than a 670 when they are not is just misleading , As a few friends and colleagues of mine find out.
7950 in my opinion mate, also in the future you could possibly crossfire them if you really have too. But just the 7950 itself should be enough for games out there maxed (but probably not with anti-aliasing at max)
You talk about misleading then post stuff that's misleading.
Hmmm, curious.

I found that a GTX680 overclocked to 1230 core was trading blows with a GTX 7950 @ 1175 core. A GTX680 needs to be around 70 MHz faster clock or clock on the core to match a 7950. A GTX670 will need an even higher core clock to match a similar clocked 7950.

I should clarify....
I am looking at used cards... 7950 / 7970 / 680
I only game at 1080 res on a single monitor with no plans to change this.
