It's Marquinhos (there's a Marquinho at Roma too), a 19 year old defender, PSG are about to sign him for €35m~ it seems.

How are PSG doing this. They have spent more than City over the last few years and I thought the tax rate in France was 75% top ban. FFP?

No idea but when you've literally got money to burn you can probably find ways to circumvent any and all measures.

Well its to be seen how FFP even comes into effect (its not like UEFA / FIFA have banned a huge club yet, although they have rapped the knuckles of a few smaller teams)

The actual money is of course no problem given their (Oil-rich) owners

£27m for a mere youngster - who from all accounts appears to be the next "big" thing in CH - is a pittance. Minor rumours that Utd are after him but unlikely anything will come of it.

edit - If we say Henriquez is "3rd" striker if /when Rooney goes, I still think Utd could do with a 4th - and one a few years more experienced / consistant than Henriquez (who could go either way, but he deserves a squad no)

Hmm, it will be interesting to see what happens because PSG are all bent out of shape about Monaco not paying French tax rates.

We have never had a high scoring midfielder really but times are changing. You cannot expect to win competitions when your midfield can't hold onto the ball these days. The quality of passing and possession of the top sides means that you will just run yourself into the ground if you cannot compete in the middle of the pitch. We bought Kagawa which should have signalled a change of tactics but I haven't seen anything to suggest that so far.

I like wide players but that doesn't stop you from having a guy in the middle pulling the strings. Carrick is nothing like the player we need for this role. Someone like Mata would be perfect but when players like that are available you have to get them quickly because they are not 10 a penny.

Beckham giggs and scholes were good for 30-40 goals a season between the three of them. This died off around 2005/6. Just after that Ronaldo started chipping in 20 + a season.
Over full seasons nani has hit ten twice.

So despite having multiple top strikers like tevex+Rooney or Rooney+ berbatov other players have akways scored many goals too.

They (and all the other teams) should have thought about this years ago.......I wonder why its suddenly so important ...........:D

.

Given the fact we were talking about CENTRAL midfield and Scholes best season for goals was ten years ago (20 in total, 14 in the league) - otherwise he averaged ~10 during his peak years.

Seeing as Rooney is all but likely to leave Man Utd, is Moyes more likely to pursue Lewandowski or go into this upcoming season with the trio of Van Persie, Welbeck & Hernández?

PSG have a sponsorship of over 200m a year IIRC so cash flow isn't an issue and Platinis son works for them in an official capacity so he will know exactly to get around FFP! I would imagine anyway!?

FFP will be torn apart quite soon I would think with the spending occurring around Europe at the moment.

The lawyers that City, PSG, Chelsea and so on can afford are better than the ones UEFA will employ.

Platini set up the deal between PSG and the Qatar lot aswell.

I said when FFP was first mentioned and I say it now, Fifa/Uefa/FA/whoever will just fine super rich clubs who break it, its a means to tax the super rich clubs and put money in their own pockets, nothing more.

Ban maybe one club who can't pay, scare the rest into paying their fines, sorted. As long as the fines are the same or less than the club would make by being in the competition it would still be worthwhile paying, though I would imagine a scale much like championship is supposedly doing(done?) where you go a million over its a small percentage fine, as the amount you go over increases the fine increases drastically. So go 1mil over, pay 100k, go 10mil over, pay 5+mil fine.

When more money goes into a sport, everyone wants a slice, this is just Uefa/Fifa/various FA's getting their slice.

Ye when it was first announced they said teams would be banned for having bad finances. Can u honestly see them banning Chelsea, PSG and Man City?

They basically never said this, for basically 3 years after announcing it there was a rules and regulations pdf you could read and the punishments and fines side hadn't been decided yet, I don't know if it has yet, I don't think it had been done by this time last year.

Ultimately they said a club could potentially, maybe, in a completely undecided way maybe be banned in certain circumstances but we haven't said what they are yet. Which I translated to mean," when we see where spending is in 3 years, and how much the champs league is worth, and how much we can fine the big boys while still being worth their while being in the competition we'll produce a list of fines for rich clubs that make us rich."

You can't come up with a set of rules 3-4 years ago and not even give a clue as to what the punishments might be, its ludicrous and suggested instantly that it would have little to no meaning. It will turn out to be percentage based fines with a banning possible if you break it 3 years in a row with increasing fines or if you don't pay the fines. There will basically be a loophole that means you can buy your way out of a ban if you pay Uefa enough, if you don't cheat through sponsorship from one of the other team owners businesses(as has already happened).
