Thirdly, people are talking about Man Utd needing to replace Rooney, not strictly true. We have 3 forwards in RVP, Hernandez and Welbeck, plus a natural, top class number 10 in Kagawa. Further to that Cleverley played there for the reserves and Watford and Anderson for both Santos and Porto. There are options, personally I'd rather us spend the money on midfielders.
.
Just, no. Say RVP gets injured, Hernandez cannot lead the line consistently on his own. He just cant do that. What happens if you need to sub him?
Welbeck, he is no where near and i'll reiterate that NO WHERE NEAR being a top striker. Give me a Lukaku, or a Sturridge any day of the week over this guy. He's all legs and no football, i'm afraid.
Anderson is the only decent player out of those you mentioned. I'd like him to be attacking but he just cant finish. But talking of finishing, zOMG Cleverley, dis guy, he;s worse than Welbeck in that respect that he has no clue at all. He's not a terribad player, but suggesting he can do anything in and around their box is a disaster waiting to happen. He is simply miles away from being an Oscar etc.
Kagawa, showed absolutely zero last season. Nothing of note except one hattrick against someone. Hell, even Dirk Kuyt scored a HT against UTD. these things can happen to the worst of players. Lets draw a line under what you perceive to have happened in Germany. it doesn't always translate straight into English im afraid.
in a midfielder who's attacking a lone striker, they need goals, im talking banging 15 + a season, otherwise it wont work out. And none of those midfielders are hitting 15 in the league any time soon.
So yea...When we won the CL in 1999 we had 4 strikers, Yorke, Cole, Solskjaer, Sheringham. That's what it takes, 4 good players. Not RVP and 2 others.
So yes, if we sell rooney, buying a new striker must be a priority. But then we already need at least 2 central midfielders who are also a priority, so we have really 3 players we need to buy if we sell rooney.
